realmyst on Windows XP

Hello all ! I finally managed to get a copy of realmyst. Installation went smoothly. The problem is that about2-3 minutes into playing, the screen goes black and a generic message appears - "Myst has encountered a problem and should be shut down". No further clues. I'm running it on Windows XP home edition, compatibility mode for Windows 95, 640*480 pixels, and I cancelled the text services. Note that it crashed also in Windows 98 compatibility mode. I also installed the patch, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Turn compatibility mode OFF? If I recall correctly it should run fine in XP.
