Secret files: tungunska in Windows 7 -64

Installed with the CDs, and it won't even start up when I press play. Haven't found any obvious solution with a google search, but I'm not very adept at getting older games like this to play when they are incompatible. Any suggestions?

"Since the game was made for XP, you might try using Windows 7's compatibility mode (right-click the shortcut, Properties, Compatibility tab, set to XP and OK it.)"

No dice. I get a black screen then the autostart menu, but pressing play does nothing. The menu goes away and the cursor returns to normal.

this won't help but just to let you know steam version plays perfectly on win 7 64

If the steam version works, then there's a good chance that copy protection is to blame. Have you tried installing a crack?
