So, I wanted to play this classic game on my new machine, but I can't even install it! After telling the setup program the direction path for the installation, it tells me that I have insufficient discspace, and that I have to close the program. This is kinda odd since I have approximately 75 gigs left to fill up.....

Can anyone help me out?

Yep; the installer cannot recognise drives over a few gigs. When the game was released drives weren't much over 6gigs. The solution on revs webpage was to find a very large file and make lots and lots of copies in a temp directory until you have only 6gb left; then install the game. Once installed you can delete the temp directory and get all your free space back.

If you're a little more tech savy you can repartition your drive; though this could take more time and probably isn't worth it in the end.

on XP, putting the installer in compatibility mode also fixes this problem.

i understand win2000 has compatibility mode but it can be hard to use... so filling up space on your drive might be the easiest way around this.

ps also, if you have more than one CD drive, make sure you install it with the drive that's closest to C: (i.e., use D: instead of E. the game doesn't seem to like being installed in an E: drive... just a preemptive hint!

Yep Compatibility mode is built in with service pack 3 or 4. You need to enable first though; heres the Microsoft knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;279792
Basically you just login as Administrator, click start, choose "Run..." and paste this: regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll changing %systemroot% to CWINNT or wherever your copy of Windows2000 is installed.

It works just like the Windows XP version, though it has fewer options. I haven't tried it with my version of BS (but I have lots of small paritions with less than 6gbs space anyway).

btw, to follow emily's good pre-emptive tip; heres another: When you start BS in Win2000 there can be some graphical glitches, specifically wierd colours. I just close the game and start it again, and it usually works.

I would advise not doing the fill-up-the-drive method unless you have to. I recently introduced an adventure gamer friend to BS, and it took us hours upon hours upon hours to fill up the 60+ gigs of space. We tried to save time by copying multiple folders at a time, but the PC kept crashing when we tried to copy like 4 gigs at a time : P

If you've got some programming experience, open a new file for write access, and do an fseek some gigantic number of bytes forward. It enlargens the file without actually caring about the contents (and hence being oodles quicker). Or, if you're really 1337, just modify the FAT directly.

I'm having trouble installing, it wants to install direct x then when I say okay, it comes up with error code -9, I'll go have a look on vogons but if any of you have ideas I'd be very appreciative. I'm using xp and trying to ru it in compatiblilty mode

If you are happy to wait some months, it will be playable in ScummVM (only BS2 is playable atm).

Is there an option to cancel when the direct x box pops up? because I think the game continues installing without it. Vague recollection of a similar problem when installing it some time ago for win2000.
