Default Curse of Monkey Island crash

Hey guys, been a while... quick question:

I've just won the diamond from the smugglers and have returned to Blood Island. When I exit the beach there is a cutscene that plays too fast and then crashes the game.

Anyone know how to fix this, or have a savegame to circumvent it?

I seem to remember having problems with the very first cutscene of MI3 and the way I worked around it was to lower the hardware acceleration of the sound using DXDIAG, so try that.

Go to START -> RUN -> DXDIAG and press ENTER
Go to the Sound tab and turn down the hardware acceleration slider one or two times to the left and see if that works out for you!

Anyway - that's what made my Curse of Monkey Island game work when I couldn't get through the Voodoo Cannonball cutscene.

Go to: http://quick.mixnmojo.com/index.php?...=monkey+island

Download the CMI Launcher. Use it to install all the game files to your hard drive and run the game through ScummVM, which should cure all your problems.

The first thing worked, but I gather the launcher is the same thing only wrapped up in a neat handy package. Thank you both.

The launcher is more of an up-to-date one than the original used when you start the game. But by using it to install all the files to the hard disk, it enables you to play it through Scumm. Which, i think is better because it saves having to adjust the sound thing in Dxdiag and the game (ie: Guybrush and the mouse curser) seems to run much smoother under XP.

Only thing is I can't seem to transfer my old savegames when I change to ScummVM with the launcher.

That's an unfortunate tradeoff and there's no workaround.

Hi, btw!
