Now *that's* a pretty good game! I thought recent FPS are designed to bore, until I installed XIII a couple of days ago. (Yeah, I know. HL2 is fun. Anyway.) There's sooo much style put into the visuals. Let me guess... it flopped, right?

Too bad. People don't like art in their games.

That's a shame, it's a really nice game. Mostly because it just looks so f**kin' great!

I don't know, judging by the screenshots and the videos I saw, it always seemed to me it would be a pretty mediocre looking game were it not for cel shading. Never bothered to actually play it though.

Yeah, the cartoony visuals and the funky music make the game. Apart from that, it's mostly fps standard fare. But a pretty good one. And very challenging, too. Oh, and the main menu is absolutely unique.

Game looks nice, but the gameplay is extremely repititive and boring. I couldn't continue after the 2nd level.

Heh!
strangely, it was the box design that attracted me to this game originally

I have to admit that without the cel shading, the game does lose a little of its appeal, but not enough to make it mediocre - I actually rate it somewhere below Deus Ex in terms of story, graphics and gameplay

No way!!!!!

This is an incredibly innovative and exciting game

You've got the fantastic graphics, the secret government conspiracy storyline, and intuitive gameplay

In my mind it's probably one of the only games that enables you to play 95% of it in stealth mode - no matter how many times I did it I would never fail to enjoy the sight of my crossbow bolt piercing some bad guy's throat

Everything about this game is appealing, right down to the original packaging!

Go out and buy it right now and see what I mean

No, you got me all wrong, I wasn't commenting on the gameplay. How could I? I never played the thing
No, it just seems to me it wouldn't look nearly as striking if they used realistic and not cel shading. The engine, level design and so on. But once again, I can make those judgements only based on the screens and video clips I saw so maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry
I wasn't criticising your post, and I do think that the game would lose some of its appeal if it were not for the cel shading.
I think this is the factor that helps it to be a great game.

If it didn't have cel shading then I would hope it would still have used a decent graphics engine, but maybe I wouldn't have rated it so highly

I've had pretty mixed feelings about the game.

I played all the way through it once and thought it was pretty good.....but I can't bring myself to replay it at all. The gameplay is pretty bland and uninteresting, and the sound is somewhere between mediocre and awful. David Duchovney does the voice of the main character and sounds utterly and completely bored in the role, while half of the guns either sound too weak or as if your speakers are emiting static.

The only real upside the game has is that the graphics are good and that the story is fairly interesting the first time through.

And it should be quite cheap to find now. I'll eventually get around to playing it.

I don't know why the game takes so much abuse. It's a decent shooter that suffered from people's over-expectations. I liked the graphics, and the gameplay was enjoyable, if forgettable.

Except developers that use save points for shooters should be poked in the eye.

I only played the demo and really did want to get it, but got sidetracked by other games. I will get it, of course. I love the style, the look. Why not just enjoy it for that?

Like FPS' were ever storydriven... Have you noticed that DeusExs and System Shocks were never really considered FPS'. FPS = First Person Shooter; walk-open door-shoot-open door-shoot some more-next level.

Huh? What's your point, mitsie? I don't remember Jack mentioning about FPSs being story driven.

I just qouted Jack's post for the "over-expectations" part. People thought it would be more than your average FPS (which of course it wasn't). That's it.

EDIT:"story driven" being a more RPGesque FPS, sorry if I confused anybody
