Cheers for that. Couldn't agree more with Greg Costikyan's points, as well as Warren Spector's points on distribution. There's a thread somewhere around here, and similar ones on other game dedicated forums where gamers are asking themselves if we expect too much from games these days.

Recently LA have been talking up 'one year' development-to-distribution games in the tomb raider indiana jones IP, what can we really expect from it? If the game has to 'sing' on next gen hardware (after all, you just forked out thousands for a top of the range TV/computer/console) then its going to be dreadfully short on play time if not an absolute bore to play.
