Default Wouldn't it be great if....

....all these nice places we visit in games were actual places?

You only have to look at some of the beautiful worlds of Myst to wonder this. I am a fantasy buff myself, and often think of how cool it would be if the Forgotten Realms really existed. Faerun for example; The Sword Coast.

All those wonderful creatures and different races. How cool would it be to meet a real elf!!?? Especially Drizzt or even his arch rival Artemis Entreri! We could visi t the great cities of Neverwinter or Luskan.

Or even Middle-Earth. Now theres a place I'd like to visit.

It would be nice to think there was some parralel (cant spell that) world that existed and like Atrus' Linking books, we could visit them.

It may seem a ridiculous thought to some people, but I genuinely believe that, there has to be other inhabited worlds out there, like ours. Perhaps, even like the places I have described above. In a different time, back to the days of lore.

I would like to think that when I die, I will be resurrected in one of these beautiful worlds.

I can only dream.......

As long as the Labyrinth of Time doesn't and never did exist I'm fine.

I want to go to Arcadia...

And the Discworld...

Also, visiting the Forgotten Realms would be great. On the Sorcerers Place forums, there are several people who have the same dream.
To see the the City of Trademeet, or the Hall of Wonders!

Or Kyrandia.

"Yes, I want to see Brandywine! She is one of the greatest of us!"

Also, I shouldn't forget to visit The Neverhood.

And the Age of the Great Guilds! The Shore of Wonder! LOOM ISLAND!

If I got as far as El Marrow I'd probably be dead already.

Though there's always sprouting.

Not to say fantasy worlds can't be exciting, but wouldn't it be even more fun to see most of the world we know?

Off-topic: I saw this documentary some time ago, about places like Titan, Europa (moons), and these places sound 'awesome'! There are liquid-gas seas and lakes all over (and gravity allows you to swim through them like a dolphin, and there's no air either so nothing flammable), plus you can just strap on wings and jump off a canyon and fly, or you could just take 100-feet jumps and bounce your way around I mean.. damn.

Manchester. Random, useless pinkgothic trivia: I was in Manchester this time last year. Or rather, I was just returning.

</drone>

And Iceland. If you've not seen Iceland once in your life, you're missing a real-life adventure game setting.

I'd like to visit City 17 from Half Life 2, minus the devastation. It would look like one of those beautiful Eastern European capitals, a la Budapest or Prague.

And they do great frozen food there. (That might only make sense to people in the UK)

One thing that occurs to me about a number of the places mentioned is that they're inordinately dangerous. Take the Sword Coast for example. Just wandering down the road often leads to you being set upon by a bunch of orcs (or worse), an experience that my office-bound working life leaves me ill-prepared for.

So, I'd like to visit a lot of these places, but only if I can get some decent training and/or some powerful bodyguards first.

I was waiting for someone to raise this point

Sure it'd be dangerous, but thats half of the excitement!! I love doing things that involve an element of risk (I'm a climber, so I know all about that). Thing is, I will have a all my sidekicks with me that I created in Character Creation before going to the other world

I'd have three fighters, a druid and a Mage. A good combination to keep me out of trouble

Orcs? In Manchester?

When it comes to non-adventure game settings, I'd love to see Oddworld, paticularily Scrabania. But the same applies. You can barely "cross the road" without being kicked down and bellydanced on by a Scrab...

Anyway, Manchester, 2 in the morning, isn't much different if you replace the orcs with people looking for trouble.

Yeah, but I'm betting you wouldn't put yourself halfway up Everest if you'd only used a local climbing wall before. It's like I said, a bit of training for the world I was going to and I'd be up for giving it a shot.

Sounds a lot like Orcs to me.

I think I'd quite like to try to visit the real-world places represented in some games. Gabriel Knight's New Orleans for example. As for fantasy places I liked the look of Booty Island from MI2. A non-stop party island could be just what I need to get away from it all.

Just a minor note here: City 17 probably IS Budapest or Prague. The Half-Life story takes place on Earth, remember.

So you could consider that going there is actually possible.

I know. I've been to Budapest, and I really wanna see Prague. Fact is, City 17 is a composite of many Eastern European cities. At least that's what they designed it to look like. I read in one Serbian PC gaming publication, for an example, that the building shown bellow is probably based on the Parliament building in Belgrade, seen further down.

Probably based on it? It's the exact same freaking building!

I wonder if in HL3, they'll let us know exactly which city we were wandering around in all that time. Based on the above info, wouldn't be surprised if it was Belgrade.

... where they happen to all speak perfect English.
