Default New Psychonauts hands-on preview

As pointed out by Moos over at the Thumb, there is a new hands-on preview of Psychonauts up here at this website. It has a lot of info about the game, especially if you haven't been following it religiously.

Quote:
In Psychonauts, you play as young Rasputin (or Raz for short) , as he runs away from his former circus life and sets out to become a sort of psychic peacekeeper for the modern age. Raz is a pretty nimble kid to control and as soon as the game begins, it’s awfully good at letting you find things for him to practice on and around the camp. He’ll also do what campers from time immemorial have done: meet and make friends and enemies who’ll both assist and hinder his progress while he’s in contact with them. But as he’s at camp for a reason, you’ll soon start using Raz’s acrobatic skills in tandem with the new powers he’s going to be learning in the early stages, and putting said skills and powers to use to solve and survive the journey(s) ahead. Jumping into your instructors’ heads is the way to practice and eventually learn powers, and Raz will also get to experience what can only be described as the most creative blending of 2D and 3D elements in a game to date.

When Raz unlocks that door and jumps into a person’s head in the game, he’s seeing his or her particular psyche splayed out as a game world that’s his to explore for pretty much as long as he (or rather, you, the player) likes. You can just go and take care of what needs to be done (collect this and that and head for the "exit"), or you can poke around and find that you’ll be able to help the person with a particular problem that just so happens to be affecting them in the real world. Finding "emotional baggage" in the form of forlorn-looking steamer trunks or sad little handbags has got to be some sort of genre defining moment, especially as it’s one small touch that’s bound to make a good deal of gamers want to explore every inch of each mind they can tap into.
