Hmm, most of those awards are fair enough and I'd agree with them, except for a select few:

Quote:
2. Console Game of the Year
Halo 2
I disagree. Although the visuals, sound and general epicness of the game cannot be denied, I was not very amazed by it.

Quote:
4. Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
Half-Life 2
I love Half-Life 2, but amazing and unique art wasn't something that really got to me. What about Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, or Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater? Or Myst IV: Revelation?

Quote:
6. Outstanding Character Performance - Male
Half-Life 2
Not really a complaint, just wondering which one it was. It certainly wasn't Gordon, so it must have been Dr. Breen, Eli Vance or Kleiner, I guess?

Quote:
15. Outstanding Achievement in Character or Story Development
Fable
Eh, no. What were they smoking?

Quote:
35. Role Playing Game of the Year
Neverwinter Nights: Kingmaker
I swear, I had never even heard of this game until seeing the awards list. How did it manage to overpower KotOR II's appeal and success?

It was for me. The beautiful city 17, the different locales in that game, the feeling of being oppressed all the time by the use of shabby gray colors. It was a piece of art.

KOTOR 2 was not out for the PC last year. I guess that leaves no other competitors worth mentioning.

Strange that a mod for Neverwinter Nights could beat Vampire: The Masquerade. Beyond Divinity was also pretty good, and Sacred was great (though that might be an action-rpg). But I guess this award shows that the adventure genre is not the only one that's struggling these days.

Nope you are wrong Just coz the RPG genre did not have good games on the PC does not mean that the RPG genre did not have a good year. Console games had:
1- Paper Mario
2- KOTOR 2
3- Fable
4- Shadow hearts: covenant (a very good game)
5- Tales of Symphonia
These are the ones that I personally know. RPGs are shifting almost completely to the consoles.

Ok, a clarification: I meant western-style RPGs. Of those you mentioned, only KOTOR 2 qualify. Fable is really an action-rpg (and so is the forthcoming Jade Empires).

If you have a look at discussion forums for western-style RPGs, you'll see a lot of despair. These are sad times for fans of that genre. Hopefully, 2005 will be a better year.

Right you are, I misread that, it was only for computers.
