Strange that a mod for Neverwinter Nights could beat Vampire: The Masquerade. Beyond Divinity was also pretty good, and Sacred was great (though that might be an action-rpg). But I guess this award shows that the adventure genre is not the only one that's struggling these days.

Ok, a clarification: I meant western-style RPGs. Of those you mentioned, only KOTOR 2 qualify. Fable is really an action-rpg (and so is the forthcoming Jade Empires).
If you have a look at discussion forums for western-style RPGs, you'll see a lot of despair. These are sad times for fans of that genre. Hopefully, 2005 will be a better year. |
