Default Kids play old games

A magazine took some kids and let them play really old games. And their comments are quite funny.

http://www.egmmag.com/article2/0,4364,1338767,00.asp

Some quotes:

Quote:
I'm sure everyone who made this game is dead by now.
About tetris:
Quote:
Tim: Which button do I press to make the blocks explode?
Quote:
And Donkey Kong's mouth is made of pluses. Look: Plus, plus, plus, minus. They're trying to teach you math by brainwashing you.
About Space Invaders (from 1978):
Quote:
But you can get this game on a cell phone. Why would you want to pay for it in an arcade?

EGM is EVIL! How could they let ANYBODY play that E.T. game?
I wonder what they would have said if they play an IF game like Zork?
Something like: "You gotta be kidding me, this can't be a game!"
Will kids in 20 years say the same about today's games? Probably....

Ha ha... they should do more of these. I'm certainly interested to know what kids will think of text adventures.

*prediction:*

"How do you turn the graphics on?"

Nah... They'd say "Is this an ancient version of Word?"
And if they got the idea they would type stuff like:
-Frag dwarf
-Power up sword
-Slash fairy

Wow, that article even dates me, and I'm 19. And I remember playing that ET game at my friend's house and wondering why it was so bad. And I miss Space Invaders. And I still play Tetris on my old, gray, original, Game Boy.

I should feel old since I played all those games around the time they came out (except E.T., thank God!), but I was actually impressed with the kids comments. One girl actually knew about the burial of the E.T. cartridges (although I think it was New Mexico and not Mexico). The article reminded me I need to get one of those Mattel Football games.

The best computer for gaming is the Amiga, with C64 coming in closely after.

I know the Amiga's got some good qualities (low latency sound, for one), but is the C64 actually good at gaming, or is it just popular among old-skoolers?

HAHA!

My, how time changes. I'm not very old, but when I played my first game: Pacman (8 years ago), I was fascinated. And I continue to be fascinated by the graphics of old games. LucasArts especially; the detail that goes into hand-drawn graphics is quite lacking in today's 3D games (that I've played).

Good stuff, 'tis all

I wonder how my children will react to these games

These kids need to play a Contra game 2-player, and then start yelling at each other when the other picks up a power-up they don't need.

Only then can you be a true gamer.

Thank you SO much. You have given me my happy nostalgia blast for the week. You're almost forgiven for hating Blue Force.

It's good to see that despite being slightly uneducated in the history of computer games, those kids were clearly mugging and exaggerating and thinking they're sounding cool in the way only 10-12 year olds can.

ehm, excuse me, but why do these kids talk about GTA3 and splintercell when they're waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to young to play those titles, at least according to the box those games came in?
