- That bloody golf game is still No1. Do people have no shame?!? Would the last person to leave Britain pleease turn the lights out.. *sigh*

- Halo is back in the top 10. Amusing considering its still the only consistent Xbox performer, its probably spent more weeks in the top 10 than all the other Xbox games added together.. but then at least it has a game that can stay in the charts more than three weeks *stares at the GC*

- Conflict Desert Storm 2 and Eye Toy are hanging on while the rest of the big releases of the past few weeks fade away...

- Biggest new entry = Club Football. The long awaited/delayed football game from codemasters. They actually bought half the licences for this game and wanted to release it back on the PSX in 1999 alongside their LMA Manager game ... expect most of the copies sold this week to go back to the shop next week as Pro Evolution Soccer 3 is out.

- For the amount of time its been in the charts, everyone in Britian must own at least 5,000 copies of Crash Bandecoot: Wrath Of Cortex each. Sad considering its Travellers Tales weakest release and their strongest Haven: Call Of The King was completely ignored..

- Hardware sales UK for last week (approx numbers)

Sony Playstation 2 = 50,000
Microsoft Xbox = 5,500
Nintendo Gamecube = 5,000
Sony PSOne = <4,000 ?

Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP = >15,000 ?
Nintendo Game Boy Advance = 15,000
Nokia N-Gage = <500 !

BTW UK sales figures are very hard to come by as the people that collect them (chart track) do not give out numbers unless you pay them lots of money!! and even then they arent allowed to give out games sales numbers!!

Every now and then when there is a new launch (this week being the n-gage launch), rough figures become availiable, when titles and formats hit sales milestones then it is always announced too.. although even then its rough numbers that have to be taken with a pinch of salt *grr*

They are like this because EB/Game who have a virtual monopoly in terms of videogames retail tried suing chart track because they dont want competitors (like there are any!) knowing their sales figures and using them to predict and buy in stock.. evil I tell you!

Japanese software and hardware sales are given and the US ones are quite easy to find most weeks.. Japan has two chart bodies, one tends to be slightly higher than the other but they are always about the same.. www.the-magicbox.com has a great section for Japanese (and worldwide/US/Europe) charts with lots of numbers and stuff!!!!!

I've said this before and I'm telling you once more: GOLF ROCKS!

Seriously though, sports games are popular at the moment...

Golf games have been going through a re-surgance the last couple of years.. which is funny considering Nintendo wont release the new Mario Golf here until halfway through next year!

Also, more useless information:

Japanese Publishers Sales Rankings First Half 2003

1. Nintendo - 14.9%
2. Konami - 13.9%
3. SquareEnix - 9.3%
4. Namco - 6.5%
5. Bandai - 6.3%
6. Sega - 6.0%
7. Capcom - 4.7%
8. Pokemon Company - 4.2%
9. Banpresto - 3.9%
10. Koei - 3.7%

Others - 26.7%

Hmm, I would have thought that Konami had a big lead over Nintendo in terms of sales.

There's so much wrong with the UK chart. Halo is in the top 10 while Knights of the Old Republic, a true gem of a game, drops to the 26th. And wtf, why is the Eye Toy still doing so well? If you ask me, PS2 is the true 'kiddy' console... (Kudos to Sony for achieving that, mind you, but it's just funny when people bash Nintendo)

I also find it incredible that games like LOTR: The Two Towers, Hulk and 007: Nightfire still manage to place so high on the charts. Although I suspect they're also taking into account the sales of the GBA versions, which are totally different games.

Nintendo have had a lot of big sellers this year, probably thanks to the increasing GC sales and GBA overtaking the PS2.. Stuff like Super Mario Advance 4, Made In Wario, Kirby's AirRide, F-Zero GX, Wind Waker, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars 2, Giftapia, Mario Golf, Animal Crossing + etc..

Its wierd that Sony arent on there at all, Capcom's low market share and Namco's high share shocked me a bit..

I *love* Mario Golf! it's honestly one of the best games I've played, ever .. I played the GBC version compulsively till I finished it .. whoever thought of a golf/RPG hybrid was a twisted genius indeed ...

Dyou know if the new versions gonna be like that? I'll have to get it if so

Golf games are great. I'm more of a Links golfer than the arcadey EA affairs though.

Links 2003 (and my 120 additional downloaded courses) is the best.

Ah yes, isn't that a Sierra game?

I believe I once played a rather old version of Links... (from 1998, I think)

They should call the golf game 'Tiger Goods 2004', because it's so good.

I'll show myself out.

Playing golf IRL and as game is addictive! Although I played Tiger Woods GBA game, but didn't found it very well to play, so I'm curious how the current UK #1 version is...

And for Mario Golf for GC we have to wait for a while... Mario Golf games put another dimension in playing, a tune in the background, all kinds of trials, etc. Nice.

Well my housemates are all addicted to Tiger Woods 2004 for the PS2. Personally I can't get past the irony that they are playing a golf game in the home of golf.

We all bought the PS2 together, but I've not foudn it very interesting to be honest. Can't see what the fuss is about (apart from the mulitplayer aspect which is fun).

It's a Microsoft game but in its original incarnation and up until a couple of years ago it was an Access game (Chris Jones and Aaron Connors must mean something to some of you adventure lovers )

I've been a links fan since the 1997 version (that's when I switched from the EA golf as it got too arcadey). There are loads of great courses available for download. If anyone has Links 2003 you MUST get the courses designed by a guy called Mike Jones (he charges 4 dollars but they are the best courses available - I have all bar the last one)........ http://www.mikejgolfdesign.com/?id=1...5ac745348dccb0

Must say though that I just played the TW 2004 demo and it looks and plays great. I might yet purchase it - but not before I purchase FIFA 2004, Half-Life 2 (well, here's hoping), BS3, Syberia 2 and find some more hours to fit in the day.

Oh wait, I got confused with Front Page Sports Golf which is Sierra's.
