I wonder if peolpe who weren't fired were also present at the meeting (apart from the presenter). That would suck to be sitting next to someone who didn't lose his job, and him having turn to you and say, "Sorry to hear that, mate." It may not be done that way, though. Oh well, still, when plight is shared, so is hurt.

It will be interesting to learn if it was the Sam & Max 2 team.

Guess the movie quote...

"We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week."

Office Space! LOL that movie was so funny.. So what, IS this really like the general coorporate strategy for lay-offs?

I don't know but that line was the first thing to pop up into my head when I heard about the layoffs.

Instead of firing people, maybe Lucasarts should hire a President for the company. That would be my first priority.

Dude, Mike Nelson and Randy Breen are doing such a smashing joke that they don't need a president!

They're doing so good they might as well fire everyone and run the whole company themselves. Preferably from very near a nuclear waste dump site.

What with the apparent outsourcing of Star Wars game development and end of in-house original projects, they could just as well merge with Lucas Licensing (those mergers are hot these days, aren't they?) and stop pretending to be a game developer.

Sean Clarke!

Nooo!

What gets me is that, if they were really trying "to bring studio staffing levels into line with the current development slate", then they would be firing junior staff, not long time employees such as Sean Clarke. There's way more to this than meets the eye.

And late on a friday evening. That is just such a bastard way to do things.

I bet this is just the start of a mass cull of all nonessential employees, i.e. anyone not working on a Star Wars game.

My respect for the company has actually just dropped, which is a bit weird considering it was already at rock bottom after the whole Sam and Max thing.

And now they will merge with Microsoft and create Star Wars OS...

An OS that crashes whenever you try to run or install anything non-Star Wars...

I knew Lucasarts was getting asinine and desperate for every last penny they could grub from fans of their games and Star Wars, but I was actually shocked when I read that message.

Sean Clarke? How.. what where when did you see this? AHHHH.. Let's just hope he'll lead these people and start a new company, dedicated to creating adventure games.

It makes more sense to me to fire both junior and senior staff if that is indeed their goal. It doesn't make any sense to have 5 or 6 directors on your payroll if only 3 or 4 games are in development at any time.
