are they classed as adventure games and are they well liked on here?

Those games honestly hold no appeal for me. I played FFVII on the old Playstation and found it to be absolute garbage. Never wanted to play another one. Lots of folk seem to love it though.

What's your view of these games?

They're classed as RPGs and not adventures. I loved FFVII back in the day, but the series got continuously worse and by the time we got to FFX, I'd had enough.

The series appears to just self indulge in its own image, it's stories subdue on their own cliches. I wouldn't bash all games like FFVII though. Grandia, Vagrant Story and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness still hold their own.

I like them mostly due to their story which I find superior to the best story driven games of all other genres (the exception might be Metal Gear Solid). However the gameplay is somewhat lacking and often gets tedious. In the end the story has to outweigh the tedium or I won't bother with it. Right now I'm happily playing Xenogears (same genre as Final Fantasy) and I find it great!
