Any good rpgs to reccomend?
I know there is the Fallout series but I gotta say that Baldur's Gate 1 and Planescape Torment never really captivated me(I really wished they'd bothered to summarise instead of waxing dissertations). Though, I did sorta like Diablo.
The graphics could be old or new, but I think it's the story and the game environment(effects and sound) and also the fighting which really suck me in. Any recommendations for the pc?

Providing that you are at least mildy interested in the settings, I'd say to try your luck with either a Knights of The Old Republic game (both are great but better start with the first one) or Vampire: Bloodlines which features a rather unique and mature setting with a deep story, interesting characters with hidden agendas and disturbingly immersive world. As far as combat is concerned I have to say I love how it is handled in the KoTOR games but it is not one of the most shining elements of Bloodlines, especially when using non-vampiric means like firearms. Your liking of Diablo kind of sets me off track but suggests that Neverwinter Nights might appeal to you as far as the gameplay goes. Also, its second expansion pack, Hordes of the Underdark, will astound you with the epic and involving storyline which in the original (and especially the first expansion set, Shadows of Undretide) is a bit blunt. Oh, and if action-RPGs are not completely out of the question, you should definitely try out Jade Empire: wonderful oriental environments, great story and fun combat once you get the hang of it.

If you like Baldur's Gate I strongly suggest you check out Arcanum! Those two and Fallout are the only RPG's I've ever played, and while I liked all three Arcanum is probably my favourite. It's got a very "steampunk" world, an interesting storyline, and good replayability -- I rarely replay games, but have replayed this one. It's old, so the graphics aren't great, but in my opinion it's quite the gem.

Arcanum
Anachronox Knights of the old Republic 1 & 2 Icewind Dale 1 & 2 Morrowind System Shock 1 & 2 Bioshock Outcast Deus Ex 1 & 2 Omikron - The nomad soul Some of the above mentioned aren't "pure" RPG's, but since you mentioned Diablo I felt I can throw them in some lighter RPG's as well as long as they contain an interesting story that's not too deep.

Based on your preferences I'd have to say:
Icewind Dale 1 & 2 (also) Throne of Darkness MapleStory (This is a free online RPG type game. Roll up a character, read some instructions, start building up your stats. Cutesy 2D graphics, nothing fancy but I like it) There are a lot of DOS RPG games I'd recommend but with todays hardware... well, y'know...

Furthermore, if you asked me, the AD&D part is excellent for pen and paper role-playing but for a computer game, it makes the combat kinda draggy. And not using turn-based mode was well... insanity. :p Quote:

Normally, if a game has almost no story, I'd go "sod that" 'cos I couldn't stand hacking around endlessly like a mindless drone. :p Quote:

Both Arcanum and Morrowind require constant attention on your part to further the story and all you ever get (of the story) is dribs and drabs. The combat is not a draw card in either, character building is where the excitement begins and ends. Morrowind is certainly the better of the two at holding your hand. You could be forgiven for thinking you worked in a mailroom/delivery service while playing Morrowind. Knights of the old republic is where its at for cheap rpg thrills. No brain required and all the fun of flashy animation, robots, laser swords, making it with hot alien babes (mmmm wookie nookie) ... er/ Neverwinter 1 and 2 certainly progress the way AD&D is played on the PC beyond the rather dull (its an opinion, I'm entitled!) implentation of it in Baldur's Gate and its fellow infinity engine siblings. NWN must be dirt cheap these days, and I suspect a package release of NWN2 and expansion are on the near horizen due to the upcoming net-only adventure packs (meaning lower prices all round). NWN1's original campaign gets a blasting for some reason, but its only guilty of being old school crpg material. It picks up towards the end and the Hordes expansion is a further improvement. NWN2's OC campaign also starts out rather slow, picks up towards the end and rushes headlong with the expansion into planescape-like territory. Dead gods, epic powers and all that nerd-porn, I love it. Its finally reaching 'stable' territory and worth putting your toe in. If like me you pine for old school hack-slash/rogue-like but have been too spoiled by modern graphics to actually (re)play old classics then cast an eye over Echelon: Book 1 which is available for download Nov.19 |

It has already been pointed out, but I think you'd like Bloodlines. Good story, but not so convoluted as in Torment. I also think (in my limited experience with the genre) that is more action-based than other RPGs, plus you don't lead a team. I also tried Anachronox, then my disk died, but I did like what I saw a lot. Combat is turn-based on this one (btw, Torment is nearly turn-based if you pause the game during combat and assign tasks.)
Also, nobody has mentioned the Gothik series, they are supposed to be great (they are still on my to-play list.) |

Yeah Gothic 1 and 2 (plus Night of the Raven) are excellent... Gothic 3 is worth checking out if you can tolerate the bugs.

I'll throw in Arx Fatalis, that was a pretty decent game from what I remember.
I think I saw that Gothic 3 is only $20 now, so that may be worth a shot, though I haven't tried it myself. I'm assuming they've worked out most of the bugs by now. |

Try the ones for the DS if you have one: Etrian's Odyssey and Orcs&Elves.
I'm still amazed how old-school is everything related to the DS, and how well designed too. |

I've just picked up Divine Divinity in a secondhand shop. It certainly looks like it's going to be good. Got to be worth 50p, at any rate.
