Carlito's Way and Vice City

I just saw Carlito's Way this afternoon and it really is a lot like Vice City in some places. Of course, Carlito's Way is the tale of a criminal who wants to retire, whereas Vice City is about a criminal who wants to get higher up. But the characters and situations are really very similar, and I wouldn't be surprised if Carlito's Way was one of the movies the designers used as a reference.

Take for instance the lawyer from Carlito's Way and the lawyer from Vice City:

I thought it made the movie extra fun, you know, seeing the references.

Both the GTA (3D) games are littered with gangster movie references. All the music on the Flashback radio station (iirc) in GTAIII was from the movie Scarface, for instance.

I think Scarface was the big 'un, reference wise (and Miami Vice), bu then I haven't seen Carlitos Way, so I dunno.

The story in Vice City is basically ripped from Scarface, rather than just inspired by or referenced to.

Much like the story in Carlito's Way is ripped from Scarface as well.

More turned around than ripped imo. Plus both movies star Al Pacino and both were directed by Brian De Palma.

There's also the secret apartment in Vice City with the blood stained bathtub and the chainsaw, which is taken from the scene in Scarface where the guy gets his arm cut off with a chainsaw in the bathtub.
