Far Cry
Far Cry is starting to sound better and better. GameSpot has a lengthy preview on it:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/fa...w_6086542.html At first I didn't pay much attention to this game because it sounded like just a shooter with pretty graphics, but from that preview I read some things I like: the levels are open ended and let you approach the missions in multiple ways; you can drive vehicles like jeeps, boats and gliders; the enemy AI is good and you can even take down a commander so the soldiers won't be so coordinated etc.

Sounds promising. I'm looking foward to playing the demo.

Participating in the multiplayer beta as we speak, and I must say, underneath the huge amounts of lag we're experiencing at the moment, it's a pretty neat game.

Far Cry is indeed one of the prettier games coming out. Does it feature the same expansive world and single 24x24 Km( or whatever) sized map concept like Stalker:Oblivion Lost and Xenus? I would like to see which game gets it right. Say, BigJKO. Ahem...are you at liberty to reveal some information about the game or something.
SP demo is coming Jan 21st. Woohoo !

This game is very close to being my number one most anticipated game of 2004 (with games like Stalker, Halflife2, and Doom3 on the way, I can't quite bring myself to say its my outright number one). The idea of open-ended gameplay on huge detailed tropical islands with truly advanvced AI, to me, sounds almost too good to be true. I can't wait for the demo!

The graphics in Far Cry are looking really sharp. If you go back and look at the early graphics, the shading and textures weren't finalized yet of course. The game had a really "ultra flourescent" tech-showcase look because it was originally a showcase for the engine. However, in the most recently unveiled shots, the game has taken on a whole new look due to all the new shading and texture work. The game looks really really great and rivals Half Life and Doom. They're all amazing to look at and they've all got different styles. It even looks like they've taken a page or two of inspiration from both games.
An original shot here. And a recent shot here. . |

Thanks for the heads-up, Erkki! I had heard about this one briefly a ways back but then lost track of it...

More screens here.
And LOL! Looks like someone from the dev team is a Myst fan; this level reeks of the Channelwood Age!

Yeah...it had me fooled for a couple of seconds or so. However, it also reminds me of the Predator movie for some reason. Nice.

By the way, here's a leaked screenshot of the next Monkey Island game that Lucasarts will reveal at this year's E3.

That's a nice electricitytower on the slope of that mountain... did Lucasarts choose to shift it to modern times?

Heh, there's actually a monkey statue in one of the beta maps.
I actually displayed the message "That's the second biggest monkey statue I've ever seen!" while playing a game against some dudes. No one laughed. Damn CS-ers!

That would be pretty great if the next monkey looked like that. And with as fluid controls as a FPS. I've always thought LucasArts could pull off a really really amazing game using the Unreal Tournament engine. Or the Far Cry engine now it seems.

played the demo today, graphics are not that great but quite good nonetheless, the game play is really hard i mean with any gun its almost impossible to shoot someone from a distance and actaully hit them. the crosshair is almost the size of the screen thought its not it feels like it is, besides that...its not a bad game, except its frustrating when you forget to save...its got some good stealth ideas you can use. my fav bit on the demo is when i just landed, shot a guy through the planks of the shore shack then stole their patrol boat, then unleshed hell upon the shores lol. the vehichles travel like wwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaay fast, and i find it hard to control which direction im going real awkward...eh its not a great game doesn't make me wanna buy the full version...i much prefered the demo of prince of persia i had with it too.

Far Cry second demo available, it's titled Research and features again one mission/map like the first demo. And again it's a massive over 500 MB demo. I wonder if they are pushing the release to a later time, because they released this second demo? It's due for release in two weeks after all.

I had a problem playing the demo on my machine with a Radeon 9800 Pro. I get to a point in the game and I start to see mixed textures and big triangles of single color. On my wife's computer, GF4 Ti 4600, I can play all day and not have a problem (a little slow but it's playable).
Then sure enough this appeared on the ATi website: http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4465.html Conferming that ATi's latest drivers have a small problem. |
