Default First Civilization 4 review is IN

From IGN 9.4

http://pc.ign.com/articles/660/660495p1.html

Not bad not bad at all I've always been a huge fan of the civilization series, so guess this is the first game I'll pre-order since Psychonauts.

Hey, Civ is easily one of the greatest games of all time. There's no way in hell they could have screwed the sequel up so badly that it would be worth less than a 9.x.

I had a lot of fun with Civ3 and all its expansions, even though the interface and graphics were obviously flawed, even for its time. It appears that they have fixed these problems with Civ4, so I this is a must-buy for me .

As with Oblivion, I'll wait for them to release the expansions before I buy this. Though I might finally pick up Civ3 now that it's cheap.

The new trailer of Civ IV is wonderful! The new website is also great http://www.civiv.com , very nostalgic, you can hear the themes from Civ I, II and Colonization on various pages.

As for the review, I don't trust IGN, they always give higher scores, because possibly it is difficult for them to look beyond the hype. In the video review it is a Knight defeating a Gunship is shown, which is extremely disappointing because it is similar to 'Spearman Vs Tank' problem that has plagued Civilization series since the beginning. In Civ IV Firaxis promised that this problem will be rectified but sadly this doesn't seems to be the case. Still, I believe it will be a wonderful game, because the basic formula is so good, and yes the music is very nice, esp. the opening choral.

Civilization games are great, but I always prefered Colonization. If only they'd make a sequel to that one...

Good. Now that he's done with Civ for a while, he better get to work on a proper sequel to Pirates!!

...or maybe a remake of Covert Action?

Did anyone actually need a review of Civilization IV to tell us that the game is good?

I never got into the the first Civ, maybe I'll give this new one a shot. Although I'd rather get Black & White 2.

I've seen some distinctly average-scoring reviews for that.

Sometimes its down to the actual gamer and not the third party reviewer.

Oh hell yeah, colonization I loved that game. But the only way I could beat it was by destroying the native Indian colonies which gave me tons of cache.

That's funny - I always let the indians alone. I didn't want to be wasting resources on them while driving my 'fellow europeans' back into the sea.

Excellent game, Colonization. The micromanagement becomes a little too tedious, though, once you get a large number of colonies.

Oh, and to stay on-topic; Yeah, I'm really looking forward to Civ4. The new changes that they've implemented sound like music to my ears.

I sent a lot of missionaries to their camps so they helped me up quite a bit.

Damn, this is bad news.

Warcraft 2 and Civilization 2 almost caused me to fail out of college. Now, civilization 4 might cost me my job.

I for one always though Black and White was way over hyoped and overated. I played the game for a few days and got so bored with it that I never returned to it. Black and White 2 doesn't excite me at all.

Same with me, I thought the graphics were amazing when I played it but after the first 3 or so levels, this game got repetitive. I got excitted about Black & White 2 because there was going to be much more combat involved. I still haven't decided if I'd rather buy Black & White 2 or Quake 4.
