The Endless Forrest public beta
You remember Tale of Tales, right? The people behind 8? Well, a public beta of their current project, The Endless Forrest, is finally available for download!
It's only the second beta, don't expect too much and be prepared for possible problems. It requires a pretty beefy machine to run so consider yourselves warned.

Well it's not really a game, it's an art project. There was a great, long aticle on the site explaining the project in detail, but it seems it's not there anymore or at least it's not linked to anymore.
And of course, this is only a tiny fragment of what will be implemented in the future. Think of it as an online community in which people role-play as deer, or something

Oh, I get that. But something like Electroplankton's also an art project, but by its nature is replayable... ok, that's got funding et al... but it's just an example.
I really like what they're doing, as you can see I'm posting on their forums! With added content this could take off...

I think it's too early to get excited. Now, I don't remember all the details, but I'm pretty certain it won't be the typical male/female affair. Like everything else in this "game", the procreation system seemed a bit warped. But as I said, I don't remember how exactly it's supposed to work so I better keep my mouth shut from now on.

I played it a couple of times today, and was mostly alone, but at one point there were three of us. It was kind of amusing and had a nice atmosphere, but they have to add a lot to it before it's something I would consider spending some serious time on. There's simply not much to do, besides running around, making some noises and sniffing eachother's butts. I suppose that might be the point, but it's not particularily entertaining.
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, "playing" this was definitely an interesting experience. |

Ok, then we probably met. I wrote my first post in the thread not long after I logged out.
I doubt I'll register before there's some more content, but if I do I'll post my symbol here. |

Okay, I'm stupid, the page explaining their future plans for The Endless Forest has been there all along.

W00t, I think I just converted some souls!
I ran into some other registered stags today, one of them had a symbol that resembled a letter "o" inside a bigger "c" (met him 3 times already), and another one had something too complicated to remember.

I think I met you, Cobra, about an hour ago. You and somebody with an eyelike symbol.
Nice. Very little gaming in there, as the others noted, but the whole thing is wonderfully soothing... Admittedly, I may be positively biased because today's Real Lifeâ„¢ made me a bit of of a nervous wreck, and this kind of calm, thrill-less experience was just what I needed. Hopefully they will add more things to do, though. Lack of chat feature is endearing, but I was desperately trying to come up with some ritual body language instead, and with options as limited as they are, it looked just silly.
