"Winning ATC entry released" double post. Also, complaining of the wording.
The important stuff was in the header. And a complaint: Why wasn't it mentioned that the competition is AGS only?
OR IS IT?! EDIT: Actually, the real complaint is that this is Yet Another Example of AGS-centricness. A competition with a general name turns out to be an AGS-only competition. HA!

Problem 1 solved.
The complaint I'll let AGA address. Frankly, I'm not sure it's that relevant, since that's just background for the actual news item. |

You've got a very valid point. But I don't see AGAST or Wintermute designers exactly falling over themselves to create this sort of excitement about their engine. I have every reason to believe those engines may be technically stronger but their creators are marketing failures and Chris Jones did everything right to make AGS a buzzword. So, if you want to get mad at someone, go tell the other engines to make their own competitions, get their developer base excited, and actually show someone what their engines can do. I'd love to see it.

Err... ATC stands for "AGS Team Challenge."
Hence, it would be an AGS only competition. Perhaps AGSTC would be a better acronym... ETA: Err... there seems to be some confusion on the AGS site itself regarding the acronym's meaning. I do believe that it was originally known as the "AGS Team Challenge" as noted in the post by Chris Jones himself linked-to above. Last edited by TheTwelve; 04-07-2005 at 08:02 PM. |

We had this idea once at WME, but nearly no one of us has really time to spend on competition games because most of us (at least those I know a bit better) are working on bigger projects which consume all the free time.
I don't think that engines really need competitions like that to get acknowledged. If someone is looking for the right engine for him it's not that hard to find out the abilities of the single ones by just trying out the already existing games and demos. That should be enough to get an idea. Plus, we at Wintermute are way to egocentrical and arrogant to work in a team with someone else :-) |

deadworm: I didn't name the competition, there's not much I can do about it being AGS-centric while the name doesn't explicitly state that. Take it up with the competition's organiser. nihil: the intention of the competition isn't to get the engine acknowledged. It's a community activity, designed to challenge people and hopefully produce some nice games. As for the double-post of the news, yes, I accidentally hit submit twice, but I'm apparently not allowed to delete news posts. By the time there was an editor handy to whom I could mention it, it had already been deleted. I don't really think "the important stuff was in the header", given surely the most important information is the game's name and download link...
