Adventure game of the year award?
I was just wandering if adventuregamers would have an adv. of the year award. I think it would be a neat idea if the staff wold vote on their favourite adv. this year. Maybe you could have forum members vote for their favourite adv of the year as well.
Oh well, just a thought. |

Yes, and all participants would have the chance to win a prize (e.g. some cool games like Psychonauts, or Half Life 2). Or a shirt designed by Trep!

We seriously considered doing an awards thing last year (not just GOTY), but decided it was too cliché. So if we do anything this year, it'll have to have a unique AG twist to make it worth doing. A site reader poll is an option, but if you're just looking for a forum poll, you don't need us to arrange that.

That sounds more like the game of the century.

Cliched, or not. It could even draw more attention to the lesser known games out there, or bring more fans to the well known. I would look forward to it, anyway.

Well now that "The Inventory" is no longer around someone has to take up the mantle of how to get it completely wrong.
Mind you if Still Life comes even close to winning then

And? I don't give a toss if it's cliche. Also, why should it take that much time? A paragraph isn't hard and pictures? Nu uh. Why shouldn't they write about why they liked it? Naming it doesn't give any details. I appreciate the staff and if they don't have the time, whatever. I just thought it would be nice.

Okay, first of all, it's very likely that we'll do some kind of awards/retrospective/'best of' thingie. Just don't expect it to be as traditional as
Secondly, if we're going to do a feature, it'll have to actually BE a feature worth running. Meaning, lots of writing and insights and all that other stuff that looks really easy but is actually very difficult and time-consuming. ( ) Third:
I can guarantee that any recommendations we hand out will actually make sense to everyone living in our dimension. Fourth... wait, there is no fourth. I was just on a roll and got carried away. Never mind. |

Whoops, no, there IS a four. Which was in fact the entire reason I intended to post originally. (I'm like this in the grocery store, too - forgetting the one thing I went in for.)
The biggest problem with doing this is that it assumes we've all played enough games to make a qualified judgement. But that's rarely the case. Come year end, maybe 2 or 3 staffers will have played Myst V, 3 others will have played Indigo Prophecy, and 4 completely different people will have played Still Life, etc. The number of us that will have actually played enough games to make legitimate comparisons is pretty few. Of course, we're completely open to someone buying games for all staff to play. |
