Default What languages do you know?

I know basic Italian and English. Sad, sad, sad, I know. I failed at learning French and German in school. I want to know Spanish as I think it's the sexiest language ever, but I'm crap at other lingo.

Now, embaress me.

I know English fluently

I can speak Greek and am learning until I am fluent (however, can pronounce perfectly I have been told by Greek friends).

Tagalog, the main dialect of the Philippines. But actually I can't speak it fluently anymore, I can only understand. I can translate it. If I moved back to Manila and lived there for a while (I could never live there permanently, that place is filthy) I'd most likely become 100% fluent again.

Just kidding, Sqauresie. I actually think you write very well.

This thread will remind a lot of people about the Jamie Lee Curtis' character, Wanda, from A fish Called Wanda.

So in how many languages can I turn on my partner? Two. English and Korean. I took Japanese fro two years in college but didn't come close to learn enough to claim I know it. I took German for two years in high school but once again I didn't learn enough to say I know German although I did understand what she was saying when Scully said to her would-be killer "Ich habe keine unruhe!" in the X-Files ep, Unruhe.

Technically I'm a language clutz, but I grew up bilingually, which is both a blessing and a curse.

Blessing because I can speak both languages fluently in everyday situations.

Curse because I'd rather I'd grown up in Britain and knew nothing of german, and instead had a perfect grasp of english. Now don't tell me I already have that - if I say perfect, I mean perfect. It EMBARRASSES me to NO end if I have to look up a word in the dictionary, given how I'm so english-obsessed. But I just have no memory for words.

I can string together some basic french, understand a handful (enough to come by with, I think), and I can understand some Afrikaans, though I've long since stopped being able to speak it.

You have no idea how disarmingly cute I would find that if I were with you in person, with your accent and your charm.

I think my accent would disappoint you. It's a pure strain british, slightly Manchunian.

Wormsie looks like the complete opposite of a language clutz.

Disappoint me? Sweetsie, the way you're going, you'd have to try impossible things to disappoint me.

I know a person who can speak eleven languages, and I have a few friends who have languages as a hobby (languages like Korean, Latin and Japanese). So my language skills are considered fairly normal in Finland. Two languages more and I can actually start bragging about it to... well, to my parents.

Well, they're not normal to me.

Trep: Ooh, a challenge.

Finnish, English, a little bit of Swedish, I used to know basics of German language, studied one course of Spanish over a year ago, I don't remember much about it right now because I haven't practiced it lately.

I would really like to someday speak & understand Spanish, Japanese and Greek fluently.

I grew up in Montreal so I can get by in French. Other than that, I understand a smattering of Ukrainian (from my grandmother). Oh, and English, of course .
