Rats
Hey I've had two rats for about two months now and am kind of raising them with my old lady, but I want them to do cool intellectual things like read Moby Dick and pick up infared signals. Anyone else have rats? Do they do interesting things? I like them, they seem smart, but they just kind of chew on me, piss on me, and sleep on me. |

We used to have rats. First we only had one, which was just while the owners were on holiday. But then the mother of the girl whose rat it was refused to take it back, so we were stuck with him (his name was Felix).
So we bought him another rat as companion (which we called [The] Mätzchen), but they didn't get along (both were males). Later they died, and we got female rats - first only three: Pia, Titti, and Cleo. But then we slowly got more. Mostly ones that were given away. I still remember Hexe ("Witch"), who had a bite in one ear, because she apparently had to live in the wild for some time. She had had bad experiences, but later she calmed down. In the end we had ten rats - I don't remember if they did tricks, but here are some links that might help you. http://www.ratsauce.com/toys_games/index.php http://www.rattyrat.com/funfacts/funfacts_index.html <<< The Behavioural Facts might help http://www.catsrats.com/training.html <<<< Ah, here is one that tells about how they train their rats. I hope you have a lot of fun with your rats. They are really great pets. -

A friend's boyfriend had 3 rats, which is the only time that's I've seen any. I can't remember them doing anything except looking cute and disturbed.

Thanks for the sites Jazhara. I might try some of those suggestions soon enough, but they are hardly three months old and don't really seem to pay much attention to where they are or what they are doing. But they are big because I got the superpower labratory rat food from the internet and it makes them grow like crazy, but their brains don't seem to be following.
There are the parrot ropes in the cage but they climb the cage rather than the ropes. Also I throw boxes and cardboard crap in there but they don't seem interested. When I try to train them to come by name they aren't interested in gaining treats and if they do take stuff half the time they take it elsewhere and forget about it. Maybe I'll construct a maze when I have time, but it would be really awesome to train them to play Operation like that lady said. |

Cute!
Rats are the greatest! I´ve got 2 desert rats as pets. One is called Fulci and the other Argento. I named them after 2 of my favourite film directors. Here are some pictures of the little monsters. Are they cute or what?

And yes, I have some rats... but they are not pets, I live next to an empty lot and they like to visit my house
