My "About Schmidt" Review
I wrote my first review for filmatism.com today. Incidently it's a review for "About Schmidt", as the thread title suggests. You can check it out here: About Schmidt Review

Did you like Citizen Ruth, Election, Sideways as well? I haven't seen Election or Citizen Ruth yet, but I really enjoyed both About Schmidt and Sideways. I'm not sure I would call Payne a "visionary". Not yet, at least. I think time will tell with that one. But I do think he's a fine director with a great deal more to show us in the future. Nice, down-to-earth review by the way.

Sideways is one of my fave films! Mind you, I'm a wine buff.... but the dialogue, the situations... fantastic!
"Don't you just want to feel that cozy little box grip down on your johnson?" "Hey, you mind keeping it down, buddy? I'm trying to eat here!" It's got more pace than about Schmidt, which although I really liked felt a bit uneven. Plus it has a lot of laughs and situations which truly make you cringe - it feels much more natural. Nice short review too. I like short reviews. Mmm. No attention span. What're we talkin about again?

As for your statement regarding Payne's films. I've seen Sideways and Election, they are both brilliant. I'll write a couple of reviews for them some time. I have yet to see Citizen Ruth At the moment I have a strange urge to pen a review for one of Wes Anderson's films. |

Haven't seen it yet.
Loved Rushmore though, total genius.

I think the Royal Tenenbaums was probably a better overall film (haven't seen all of the other two) than The Life Aquatic but Terabin said it, the atmosphere in TLA is incredible, maybe the best I've ever experienced.

The Royal Tenenbaums was a great film with an even better cast - Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson, Angelica Houston, Gwynneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller - the list is endless
I havent seen The Life Aquatic yet - it's had some bad reviews here in the UK - I don't usually take much notice of reviews as everyone has their own peculiar tastes. and, this film has a similarly good cast with the fine additions of Willem Dafoe, Cate Blanchett and Michael Gambon I'm sure I will love it |

If nothing else, it's worth seeing for the David Bowie songs in Portugese.

Well, the critics say that The Life Aquatic isn't as good as Rushmore or even The Royal Tenenbaums. I beg to differ, I enjoyed The Life Aquatic more than The Royal Tenenbaums, even more than Rushmore (but that would be a close call).
