Default Is Sex and the City a good thing?

Some of my friends really enjoy this show, and I kind of wonder why. I guess part of my bias against the show is that I don't like Sarah (is it with an H?) Jessica Parker, but I think also my bias is based on the fact that I think the premise of the show is silly. But I'm sure there are good reasons for liking the show.

What do you think?

NO TV? What do you watch?

Actually, I don't watch TV that much either. Damn, I should've included that as an option in the poll. I suppose there's no way to edit the poll.

This is hilarious. Terabin, you're going to be the only person voting in your own poll at this rate! I didn't vote either because I can't decide whether to vote "Sex and the City . . . right on!", something nasty about the show, or "I don't watch T.V." I mostly don't watch TV because I don't have cable, so I've seen the show about 6 times at other people's houses (and rarely the whole thing.) I hate SJP too, but Matthew Broderick loves her, and he's a good actor . . . I like Kristen Davis. I think the idea for the show is cool, sort of. I'm mean, it's sort of like women's Seinfeld or something--a lot of my friends talk about it (or did) on a weekly basis as relevant to their single (or, not-so-single-anymore) 30-something lives. So, what I am trying to say at 6am when I have a massive bout of insomnia and am not making any sense anyway is that yeah, it's sort of cool, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it if I were you--not til you're a 30 year old woman, anyway, and maybe not even then.

I am notorious for watching bad TV programs. It's a good thing I don't have a TV anymore.

I loved the show, I have four of the six series on DVD. I liked the witty dialogue and high-life of those four girls. It was actually the only series I watched (well, West Wing too, but it's currently on a hiatus), and now that it's gone I relocated my TV set back to where it belongs: a storage room.

(I voted for the first option anyway. I find any program that comes from TV bad. I blame my dad.)

I didn't think the couple episodes I watched were funny. But I suppose I don't exactly fit the target audience for the show.

Hey...! My very first adventure program came from TV - technically. Cause I was playing Scott Adams' "Pirate Adventure" on a TI-99/4A home computer, which was hooked to our b/w TV set. </stoneage>
Also, what about "The Pink Panther" (the cartoon series)? </morechildhoodmemories>

I'm just teasing you, T-boy. I actually don't think it's fall-down funny, but it can be clever or witty sometimes. And sometimes it's not funny at all, and some of the dumber sex stuff is fairly juvenile. So, don't worry, you don't have to love the show. Go find a show (or a book or a game, or a friend) you do love instead . . .

OK, yeah, I'll shut up now about the show. This isn't supposed to be a thread where I dispute anyone who likes it!!!!

Well... I've heard a lot of this show... but I've never seen it. I rarely watch TV as it is (only for Stargate, X-Files, Seven Days & Outer Limits, essentially), though, because I consider most things I've seen briefly to be rather silly. So I doubt it would be different with S&TC, but I've really no idea.

...

What's it about?
