It's not better or worse then any other country. But I myself like it more then many other countries I've been to since it's very much like home.

I've never been to Germany but I know the beer is great, and so is the landscape in many places there.

And I love German football.

But the thing I don't really like that much is the language, I tried to learn it years ago, but found it to be a bit boring.

They really seem to like David Hasselhoff?
Um... sausage, beer... castles or something?

That's pretty much it.

I know that being German and liking Germany is an anathema to Germans because it leads to patriotism, which is a euphemism for nationalism, which is bad, bad, baad, baaaad.

They make the best cars in the world (well, except Opel), play boring football ( at Kolzig), speak a somewhat boring language (no offense, but I got bored when I had to learn it) and dubbes all their movies (stupid if you ask me).

Oh, and then there's always this.

Nobody does Evil Empires quite like the Germans do. Therefor it earns my dubious respect, as a dictator.

I generally don't read avatars that much. Dunno why I decided to read his. But yes, you are indeed one of the many, many abominations unto Nuggan. I think you rate right up there with rocks and the color blue.

Oh, and it COULD have been that I just hadn't read Monstrous Regiment yet. Uberwald, however, is mentioned in many of the books. Pretty much every one with Angua in it, to name a few. And Carpe Jugulum, and the Fifth Elephant, of course, and the Truth....

There is a difference between patriotism and proud. Germans are are not that scared of being patriotic but in combination with being proud of being patriotic... yes, that may lead to bad things...

@ rest
Come on, there is more than castles, beer an a boring (I dont think so) language.

Nuggan is also in The Last Hero
(There's even a picture of him. He looks a little like Danny DeVito)

Well, there are people in the mountains with leatherpants on and they drink beer and eat Bratwurst all the time and sing horrible drinking songs...

Seriously though as I am studying german and have been paying attention in my geography lessons, I do know enough not to start writing all down...

Ah... I haven't read Last Hero yet. Probably will be the last one I read, since it costs so much.

Munich and surrounding rural area rules.
Berlin rules. Lots going on there. And, hey, any place that has public transportation the whole night through is top notch in my book. No stressing out and checking the time like everywhere else!

I have never experienced Oktoberfest or anything similar, so my opinion of Germany may be skewed towards the positive

Just what exactly are you trying to suggest about Oktoberfest?

I've been to Berlin once, but I found most of the stuff there very depressing. The nightlife is nice, but not as vibrant as I've experienced in Amsterdam, London (Leichester Square!) and even NYC.
