Default Cubs win! Cubs win!

Holy cow!

There probably aren't too many baseball fans here, but I couldn't help myself. Though I've never lived in Chicago, I've been a lifelong baseball fan and I always followed the Cubs because their games were nationally televised. This is the first time they've won a playoff series since 1908. It's been a long time coming, and it's a pretty sweet feeling!

Now if they and the Red Sox can make it to the World Series, it'll be just like the olden days. I'll be able to tell my grandkids, "Ah, I remember back in aught-three..."

Congratulations,
my beloved home team.

I am not a sports fan, but I do live in Chicago, and I strongly support my hot little Cubbies.

I don't follow football, but I gotta say I'm still pretty psyched about my own CAL(ifornia) beating #3 USC two games ago in college football (the American kind). That was one of the most amazing college football games ever to be televised. Double overtime, huge upset. Booyah! Of course, we got roundly smacked by Oregon State last week...

And now the Red Sox have won their series!

The apocalypse creeps one inning closer...

Next up on the countdown to doomsday, Hugh Hefner gets out of his jammies for the first time since 1957.

Well I am a Baseball crazed person right now. I am a Braves fan and even I was rooting for the cubbies. I wanna Sox-Cubs world series!! Of course the Cubbies will have to win - its been a long stretch since 1908.

Just wish Harry Carey had held onto see this - doesn't seem the same without him in the announcers box.

The last time the Red Sox won the World Series was 1918, so it's been a while for them, too. In fact, the team they beat that year was the Cubs. But then they sold their star pitcher to the Yankees and they haven't won since. Of course, Babe Ruth didn't pitch much after he went to the Yankees.

Anyway, I would love to see a Cubs-Sox series, and I think it could happen. The Cubs should beat Florida (not saying they will, but they should), and if the Sox play more like they did in Game 1 than they did last night, they can beat the Yankees.

Game 3 starts in about 45 minutes. I can't wait!

Phew! Cubs win 5-4 in 11 innings. What did you think, Laura? Personally, I prefer 12-3 games; they're easier on my nerves. But I'll take it!

I came looking for you as soon as I settled down.
Whew - that was nerve racking. I thought ohh no - they need a 2 run lead going into the bottom. One run won't do it - But - oh yeah - I'll take it anyway it comes. What a great game!!!

The good:

Cubs win 8-3 to take a 3-1 lead in the NLCS!

The bad:

Red Sox lose 4-3. The Yankees lead the series 2-1.

The ugly:

Two brawls involving the Yankees and the Red Sox (above) and the Yankees, a Red Sox employee and Boston police (below). Police say they may file assault charges against two Yankees.

CUBS TAKE lead in the series !!!!!!

Heyy those are great shots!

Whoa that was one insane game at Fenway though, Brawls - charging the field -one run game. I really want to see the Sox take this one back. - But if has to just be the Cubs advancing - I can definitely live with that.

Yeah, if the Red Sox can channel their emotion and energy into actually playing 9 innings of good baseball, they can still win the series. The problem is, for as close as yesterday's game was, they didn't play that great. Defensively, they were good. One bad inning and a couple other bad pitches. But offensively, they just didn't do well at all. Especially considering that after the first inning, they looked like they were going to light up Roger Clemens all day long. But they looked really weak after that.

I agree with you, Laura--as long as the Cubs win, the ALCS is secondary. Still, it would be nice to see the Yankees and their $180 million payroll go down in flames for the third year in a row. (Not that the Red Sox are stingy with the cash, either.)

Well not sure if it will do any cosmic good, but in honor of the Red Sox - I watched/listened to the 99' Division playoff game five - where the Red sox came back hard and won the series. AOL has several classic games in their entirety that you can stream. Great game - maybe it will bring the hoodoo their way.

Meanwhile - not long before possible history is made and the Cubs advance to the 2003 World Series!! Have to get out my copy of the song - Last Ode of a Dying Cub Fan and play it next.

I'm not sure; does a rainout count as cosmic good for the Red Sox? At this point, I think it might...

And as for the Cubs... D'oh! Oh well, now they can take the series in Chicago and be on hand to participate in the resulting party/riot/end of Western civilization. And I don't think Beckett was the same pitcher the Cubs knocked around in Game 1 (for all the good it ultimately did). He pitched an amazing game!

Yeah he did pitch an awesoome game. Two words GAME SIX. Nuff said.

Hmmmm not quite the hoodoo I had in mind. Drat those wayward spells.

My eyes hurt.

EDIT: Decided that was kind of a terse post, and that I should expound upon it. That was the second most heartbreaking 5 minutes I've ever had the misfortune to see. Which, really, probably means I've led a pretty charmed life, but still...

I honestly don't believe in curses, but innings like that really test my skepticism. Here's hoping the Cubs pull themselves together for tomorrow night. I think they can, and hope like crazy that they will.
