The star of King Kong has been chosen
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainm...ection=general
Peter Jackson has chosen Jack Black to star in King Kong as Carl Denham, an adventurer film-maker who is trying to make a name for himself in 1930s New York. This could lead to anything I suppose, first I thought this was an April fools joke, but then I realised it isn't April yet. Oh well, Peter always surprises positively in the end, maybe he can do miracles with Jack Black... Though I don't like Jack Black's movies, many other seem to like.

I think you got it wrong, Black's gonna play the gorilla's role...

Heh, maybe...
But anyhow I think PJ will work his magic again and do the same to Black as he did to Wood and Astin in LotR. He turned them from B movie actors to possible A list material.

A search for a crazy man!

I'm not sure Sean Astin and Elijah Wood were really b-actors before they were in LOTR. Like Jack Black, they were already pretty big names.

Well, I can agree that Elijah wasn't a B movie actor, but even though Sean Astin has done acting for 20 years already, the only movie I know and have seen him in before LotR was Encino Man and that's not far from a B movie...

Astin was also the lead in Rudy, and as a kid in The Goonies

This kicks quite a bit of ass, IMHO. JAck Black rocks my socks off, and I've always wanted to see him in in a more serious role.

Pretty cool news. Jack Black brings a spark to anything he's involved with. His bit with Will Ferrell where they added lyrics to the acceptance speech cutoff music was my favorite part of an otherwise pretty dull Oscar ceremony. I just picked up the Tenacious D Masterworks DVD set and am really looking forward to delving into it in the near future.
As far as King Kong goes, I wonder if Weta can convert any of their troll models from LotR into gorillas? That could speed up production.

I didn't like LOTR (although the production values kicked ass) but I'm looking forward to this movie. Naiomi Watts is playing the female lead right?

I think Jack Black is actually going to play all roles in the film. He is now also slated to direct.

Adrian Brody is also getting a role in the movie. The Oscar winner has been offered the role of Jack Driscoll, a former World War I fighter pilot who is the love interest for archaeologist Ann Darrow, to be played by Naomi Watts.

I'll bet Jack Black will kill King Kong from two hundred yards away.... with MIND BULLETS.
... and then Kyle can do a cameo. |

I'm sceptical. Although it could have been worse, it could have been Will Smith....
