Default How many rabbits?

I have a question for all you animal (rabbit in this case) lovers out there. Annabel is now almost through puberty. She more often goes her own way now, but she still follows me wherever I go. She still doesn't like not getting attention from me, but I will have to work more in the near future when/if my company takes off. That means she will be alone more often. Therefore, and also because I am not a rabbit and I can't play with Annabel the way rabbits play, I am pondering getting her a companion rabbit. It should be a castrated male, because the combination female (Annabel) and male has the greatest chance of success. What do you think? Am I right, or do I anthromorphize Annabel too much? Another thing to take into consideration is this: Annabel is something like a model rabbit. She listens to what I say, adn sometimes even does what I say. When I tell her to get into her cage, she most of the time reluctantly complies, and when I call her she often comes to me. She knows the meaning of the word 'no.' She also doesn't really damage much in the house and in the garden. I'm afraid that adding another rabbit to the household will change that. One will be the boldest, and make the other one also do things that are forbidden. So two rabbits in the house can mean more than twice the damage in my case. According to a friend of mine, who also had two rabbits, this doesn't have to be so. They can have enough with each other's company of course. So, what is your expert opinion on this? Should I stay with one rabbit, or should I go and find another one?

Alternatively, you could get a guinea pig - as they apparently make good friends.

I think a handsome Holland Lop would be suitable for Annabel.

I'm sorry Jelena but I don't like rabbits with ears like that. Rabbits have to be able to use their ears, not only to hear but also in body language.

What makes you think they can't use their ears when they're hanging? The rabbit (with hanging ears) we had for several years could move his ears quite a lot.

OK, but could he move them so they stood upright? That's very important for finding out the direction of where a sound comes from.

No, but he could move them forward quite a bit especially when he was curious. He never showed any signs that he was unaware of what was going on around him.
We kept him in a huge outdoor home during the spring and summer where he had a small house and a big caged area with grass and branches. Occasionally cats would stop by and he would quickly hide inside his house.

He was a lovely rabbit who actually got the opportunity to become a father. We had quite a fun time watching him and his girlfriend when they first met. I think he waited 5 seconds before he decided to mate with her. Love at first sight, but not much courting.

Hmm sounds like a good idea, aren't there any animal shelters that have rabbits?. So you could do both a good deed while giving Annabel a mate.

I dunno if male/female is a good combination if they aren't castrated.

I don't know tsa, but I do know that if you have at least two rabbits, you will soon have more than two rabbits.

To be fair, tsa did specify the male would be "fixed" in his original post.

Well I seem to recall a father ted episode where more rabbits "suddenly" appeared, so castration won't necessary stop such from happening :O!

Well just b/c the male would be fixed..... does that mean that he could be a mate for Annibel?

She just needs some companionship thats all....it could be another female ..... that way the could go shopping together on the internet while tsa is working
