Happy Chinese New Year!
It's the year 4707, the Year of the Ox!
Gong Hei Faat Choi!!! Or if you prefer in Mandarin, Gong Xi Fa Cai! I wish prosperity, good health, good luck and good spirits for all AGers this year! Here's a table showing past and future years: Year of the Rat - 1948,1960,1972,1984,1996,2008 Year of the Ox - 1949,1961,1973,1985,1997,2009 Year of the Tiger - 1950,1962,1974,1986,1998,2010 Year of the Rabbit - 1951,1963,1975,1987,1999,2011 Year of the Dragon - 1952,1964,1976,1988,2000,2012 Year of the Snake - 1953,1965,1977,1989,2001,2013 Year of the Horse - 1954,1966,1978,1990,2002,2014 Year of the Ram/Sheep - 1955,1967,1979,1991,2003,2015 Year of the Monkey - 1956,1968,1980,1992,2004,2016 Year of the Rooster - 1957,1969,1981,1993,2005,2017 Year of the Dog - 1958,1970,1982,1994,2006,2018 Year of the Pig/Boar - 1959,1971,1983,1995,2007,2019 For example, since I was born in 1971, I was born in the Year of the Pig. However if you were born in January or February, chances are good that you were actually born in the previous Chinese year, depending on what date Chinese New Year occured. If you're still unsure what your Chinese zodiac sign is, consult this the sixty-year cycle chart (scroll partway down). This thread almost always turns into a "What's your sign?" thread anyway , and it's a sneaky way to figure out how old someone is!

I was born in the year of the sheep, and the attributes of that sign are suspiciously similar to some of my own attributes:

Another Wabbit. ^_^ (though I already knew that). Ditto on being amazed how accurate it is. -

On a more accurate note...
I am born in the Year of the Pig (Honest, simple, gallant, sturdy, sociable, peace-loving, patient, loyal, hard-working, trusting, sincere, calm, understanding, thoughtful, scrupulous, passionate, intelligent. Can be naive, over-reliant, self-indulgent, gullible, fatalistic, materialistic.), my inner animal is the Dog* (Honest, intelligent, straightforward, loyal, sense of justice and fair play, attractive, amicable, unpretentious, sociable, open-minded, idealistic, moralistic, practical, affectionate. Can be cynical, lazy, cold, judgmental, pessimistic, worrier, stubborn, quarrelsome) and my secretive animal the Horse (Cheerful, popular, quick-witted, changeable, earthy, perceptive, talkative, agile mentally and physically, magnetic, intelligent, astute, flexible, open-minded. Can be fickle, arrogant, anxious, rude, gullible, stubborn) Gosh... I have way too many adjectives! *And I'm a cat-person through and through... sigh!

I was born in the year of the Sheep/Ram: (Righteous, sincere, sympathetic, mild-mannered, shy, artistic, creative, gentle, compassionate, understanding, mothering, determined, peaceful, generous, seeks security. Can be moody, indecisive, over-passive, worrier, pessimistic, over-sensitive, complainer, wise)
Frankly, I was hoping for something a bit more illustrious, but a few of those descriptions fit me remarkably well. |

It's strange though that there are plenty of people I know who were born in the same year as me who would definitely not apply to the characteristics of the year in which I was born.

Ox (Yin, 2nd Trine, Fixed Element Water): Dependable, calm, methodical, patient, hardworking, ambitious, conventional, steady, modest, logical, resolute, tenacious. Can be stubborn, narrow-minded, materialistic, rigid, demanding.
Which is only partly true, and in direct opposition to my Western astrological sign, which is also only partly true. Sagittarius (The Archer) (mutable, fire, universal): Keyword: "I see". The Sagittarius person is freedom-loving, extrovert, straightforward, benevolent, philosophic, idealistic, sincere, intellectual, knowledgeable, philosophical, broad-minded, truth-seeking and telling, just, fun-loving, athletic, adventurous, expansive, and optimistic. They can also sometimes be blundering, careless, exaggerative, know-it-all, over-indulgent, tactless and scattered.

I was born December 7th 1966, so I'm...
Horse (Yang, 3rd Trine, Fixed Element Fire): Cheerful, popular, quick-witted, changeable, earthy, perceptive, talkative, agile mentally and physically, magnetic, intelligent, astute, flexible, open-minded. Can be fickle, arrogant, anxious, rude, gullible, stubborn. And also... Sagittarius (The Archer) (fire, mutable, universal): Keyword: "I perceive". Freedom loving, straightforward, extrovert, philosophical, intellectual, fun-loving, arrogant, adventurous, expansive, optimistic. Can be blundering, scattered, careless, jealous, too-serious, tactless. Yep, they both pretty much nail me.

Just walked into that one, didn't you, Speck??!
Actually, my sister and cousin were both born in the Year of the Monkey too. In fact, my little cousin just happened to be born on Chinese New Year that year (Feb. 4, 1992), so I sometimes refer to him as Monkey Boy! Yeah, I'm such a Pig.

And I'm a Dragon. It seems to be as flattering as being a Scorpio.
