Default Happy Independence Day

I know... It was the biggest mistake in history gaining Independence from us nice people, but hey celebrate the fact you are another year older.

Perhaps if we had been a Scottish colony and not a British one, we might not have been so eager to gain independence...

Thanks for the kind wishes, y'all!

I'll be calling upon my own little fireworks stash tonight.

Psst! Scots are Brits. Perhaps you meant to say English?
(Apologies to all the English who don't want to be lumped in the same category of anything with Scotsmen.)

And "Independance"? That sounds like some French holiday.

Perhaps it's time for a bit of clarication, then.
I thought "England" and "Britain" were interchangeable terms, and that their respective derivatives "English" and "British" referred only to people or things from England specifically, but that "United Kingdom" (UK for short) referred indistinctly to any or all the following: Scotland, England, Wales, and parts of Ireland.
Was I incorrect in this assumption?

Great Britain is the union of England, Scotland and Wales.

The U.K. is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
