A fond farewell to "Mr. Wizard"
Don Herbert Dies at 89
If there's anyone else on the forums who remembers the show, I just read about this today. "Mr. Wizard" was one of the fond memories of my childhood. While shows like "Bill Nye" or "Beakman's World" were also quite fun and informative, there was a lot to be said for Herbert's simpler, less-flashy brand of "backyard science", where his assistants were all kids, the experiments were allowed to be wow-inducing all on their own and done with household items, and you were encouraged to think along. So, a fond farewell from a kid who spent many a morning watching the TV and marvelling at "magic" powder that didn't get wet, being able to walk through a postcard-sized piece of paper, or exploding apart flash-frozen tennis balls (OK, maybe the show had *some* flash sometimes ). Peace & Luv, Liz

"If it is, would that mean Oompa Loompas are Candy Elementals?" "Actually, I'm thinking more like the Candyland board game. But, I like this idea better." "I like the idea of Oompa Loompa Elementals." |

I never saw this show. Grew up without TV
How did he explode the flash frozen tennis balls? That sounds really excellent! |
