Default Rennes-le-Château

Anybody actually been there? I thought there were weirder places to ask, so hey.

Spoiler:
I've never been. A certain game made me google for Rennes related stuff lately, though.

I'll be a busybody - Gabriel Knight 3.

If you look on the little grey bars between forums, there's a little map on there and right in the middle, Renne Le Chateau.

Wow, cool, I've never seen that! Must've set the contrast too low... Yes, the game's Gabriel Knight 3, surely a game that everybody on these forums has played at least once, no?

Mh, whats a busy...body, busybody, mom?

Yeah, I've wanted to go to check out rennes-le-chateau ever since I played GK3 for the first time.

Couple of my friends have been playing around with the idea also.

Yeah, they are pretty good.

Especially the first and the third one.

Jaf has been to Rennes, and posted a full journal with pictures and stuff. Don't know the link though. But you should check it out, it was nice. I believe Jane even commented on it.

I visited RLC in 2002, which was sort of a dream for me after playing GK3. It is very interesting to compare the actual city to the version in the game. Truth is, the city's layout is very different and in real life the streets are swarming with tourists. Otherwise, the overall look and atmosphere of Rennes-le-Château is very nicely represented in the game.

Oh, I also bought a special flask of Saunière wine, which has his face on the label. In the Magdalene church I bought a candle which I was supposed to lit and leave there, but which I instead took with me as a souvenir.

My thoughts exactly. Gabriel Knight 2 is Jane Jensen's personal favorite as well.

I'm in the early stages of planning to spend a year in the UK and if I do that I'd definately take a side trip to France. GK3 is my personal favourite - but every game would rank well in my top 20.

Anything special about the candle? Other than that it's taken out of the Magdalene church that is.

Is the hotel there? I thought it was maybe just made up for the game, but then, that's hard to tell with Jensen's blend of fiction and facts.

There's a sketch of the Magdalen-with-the-Skull painting on it, the one which also plays a somewhat important role in one of the Serpent Rouge riddles in GK3. (On the winebottle's label is the familiar picture of Saunière which can also be seen in the game. )

There's no hotel in RLC as far as I could tell, however there is a building that sort of resembles the hotel's exterior.

Coordinates of Rennes-le-chateau (according to Google Earth) are:
42°55'38.82"N, 2°15'51.84"E

Pity that the resolution of the picture Google Earth has of the village is very low. But you now know where it is, anyway.

Here are also some images, but they're pretty much just details of the church and some stuff about the important paintings. (It's all in Italian too )

Still, at least that one larger shot of the inside of the church shows how accurate GK3 was in there

Only now I checked the main site, which is quite interesting http://www.ordinedeltempio.it

A good RLC photo site is this one, which shows various images of buildings in the city, as well as some outside of the city, such as the devil's armchair.
