Default Sell us your country

SnorkleCat and I have decided to move to another country. The question is: where? So if you think you would like to have us, our dog and eight cats in your country then do take a moment to tell us why we should move there.

You should move anywhere you want, because either way, you'll be able to preface all your statements with "In my country..."

That said, Canada has moose hunting and free health care.

Moving? To another country? Just like that? The two of you seem to be a cool couple. How 'bout Molvania?

May I ask what country your passports are from? Is it that easy for you to just pick up and haul off to another country, no questions asked (by the government)? What about job prospects? Necessary things like health insurance? Regulations for pets? Logistics like shipping personal possessions?

Just curious to know.

Come on, these might be reasonable issues, but don't be so unromantic just once. The way jacog posted this, it sounds like a nice brother or at least a close relative of the nice old "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" kind of plan, only that... he'll never come back home again. Cool.

Personally, I'd move to Sweden..

Sigh.

Funny, we have considered Sweden.

Trippyhomodudens: the lady has a US passport, mine is South African. We care not about possessions and will sell the lot. The animals must come though, no negotiation there. So preferably a place with no stupid quarantine crap. We're both very employable, but will most likely try and be set up with regular telecommuting work before then, and perhaps a tiny income from our newly founded gaming venture.

There are a lot of great qualities of this country that I'm proud of. We've got for instance (almost) free health care and a good environment all over the country. Our climate is (or let me say has been since the climate seems to be changing) cold winters with temperatures down to -30 C at worst. And the summers have pretty warm temperatures up to 30 C at best.
If you live up north the winters are just too long for my liking. I live one hour south of Stockholm and generally our winters last from december to march.
We're situated west of the Baltic See which gives us a long coastline with some nice archipellagos.
Our position up north (Stockholm is at the same latitude as the south tip of Greenland) gives us dark winters and sunny summers. Way up north the sun never sets in the summer and never rises in the winter. Those are places to avoid IMHO

PM me if you're interested in some more info and links.
Now I've got to rush to work.
Lena

Are you allowed to spank grown-ups in Sweden?

Ahem, no reason.

Jennifer has lived in Alaska for a number of years, but oddly I seem to do better with cold weather. Either way, don't mind the cold.

Hmm, there's a symphony concert in Sweden we wanted to attend in July. All cash will have to go into the emigration fund now though.

Well there is always Texas, it's like a whole other country. You have everything from canyons to oceans not to mention cities with growing economies and wonderful nightlife like Austin and San Antonio.

P.S There is no spanking regulations in Texas. What adults do in their own bedrooms is nobody else's business. Just Keep Austin Weird!

You do realise the title of this thread makes you look like some sort of eccentric billionaire.

I'd try to recommend the UK to you but since the quarantine thing is a problem (and I can understand not wanting the enforced separation from loved animals) I'm guessing it wouldn't be any good.

Isn't there some sort of animal passport scheme that verifies animals as healthy so they don't have to do quarantine (with little implanted chips) If you could do that would the UK become a possibility?

All of Scandinavia has quarantine for animals unfortunately. I know that Norway has 6 months for cats from some countries.. You also need to have doctors recommendation's from about a month ago.. Mostly this is because several countries have several serious diseases that Scandinavian pets doesn't have..

How about Finland?

We are like the modern mini-USA.

If I might be so curious to ask why you've decided to move to another country?

If you don't feel like sharing that info please ignore this question.

It's not the country that makes the experience, it's the people you know in that country Just my 2 cents.

How 'bout the Netherlands? The country that you can *truly* call land of the free. (Unfortunately not of the brave, but you can't have it all). Some even think the country is too free, but that's another story.

This place is a little mental... hard to describe to anyone who haven't experienced it for themselves. Imagine this... two regional soccer teams have a match, the referee makes a questionable call and supporters of the two teams storm onto the field on a rampage to fight it out... then some of the spectators actually GO HOME to get weapons, and then return to the soccer match to fight some more. An actual thing that happened here, and there are many such things. The place is getting increasingly poorly goverened, like a government official getting convicted of fraud, going to jail, but then allowed to go home every weekend, and worse even... his 4 year sentence was over in 2 months, AND he got a huge hero's welcome when he got out. Our minister of health thinks you can cure AIDS with garlic and lemon peel. It's just getting nuttier by the minute. And we have a big crime problem that the government refuses to acknowledge. It's a long list and I can vent for hours. It's a lovely place, but I'm afraid the toilet is starting to swirl underneath it.

BTW - Most bestest Swede that ever lived...

And we'll forgive you for that Dolf Lundgren fella.
