Favorite Christmas programs
Tis the season officially!! I am a sucker for any kind of Christmas program.
What Christmas programs do you love to watch every Christmas? It's not limited to TV - it can be movies, concerts, plays, etc. I think I (or someone else) did a thread like this last year but I'll do a new one. For me - it's Rankin and Bass programs. I don't care if they're good, mediocre or bad, I love them all! Tonight I watched Rudolph's Shiny New Year and now I'm watching one of my favorites - The Year Without A Santa Claus (heeee, see my avatar!!). For performances, I love watching The Nutcracker Suite and a good chorus singing traditional Christmas songs. For movies: It's A Wonderful Life, Holiday Inn, White Christmas, Scrooged, Miracle on 34th Street, Scrooge (with Albert Finney). And to really add to my public embarassment, if I catch A Smokey Mountain Christmas (with Dolly Parton and Lee Majors) on TV, I always watch it (*embarassed*). A Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life. Also, sometimes, Miracle on 34th Street.

^ I second that. Also: Terminator 2 - Judgement Day. Hey, I don't know why, either, but it seems to be on every Christmas, at least that's my impression.

I usually watch Drei HaselnĂĽsse fĂĽr Aschenbrödel (tysk)/Tři ořĂ*šky pro Popelku (tsjekkisk) (three nuts for cinderella) called "tre nøtter til askepott" in Norway. I love this old movie, even though it's really frustrating that it's been dubbed.
And we also always watch "Grevinnen and Hovmesteren" ("dinner for one" or "the Butler And the Countess") every year the 23. It's an old german short movie, very humorous. Other than that I usually watch most of the disney movies, and of course "a christmas story" or something, it's the one with real characters I prefer, but the cartoon is nice too.

As for Christmas movies, I always loved "A Muppets Christmas Carol". Scrooged is also nice. And this year it seems as if the Advents movie of my favour is the entire Indiana Jones Trilogy. -

Mr. Pommeroy! Confusing thing, that. It was produced by Germans, written by a Brit, first broadcasted on German television, ... in English. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One

The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures of course. I don't ritually watch television, the only Christmas themed movie I remember liking is The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Rankin-Bass rules Christmas! Those and the animated Grinch.
Christmas Vacation is easily the best movie, but I finally burned out on it after watching it so often I could practically recite the lines. Scrooged, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol ('51, B&W, of course) are also great. And my guilty pleasure is Ernest Saves Christmas. |
