It's where, unlike ungrateful Europeans who have no such custom, ( ) We gorge ourselves on turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie in a highly expensive and time-consuming faux holiday, while rich executives of major companies give thanks for gullible customers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time of eating two days worth of calories in one sitting.

It's a time to let the tryptophan do it's magic (if you're not a vegan/vegetarian)

It's a time to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade followed by watching Miracle on 34th Street.

It's a time to spend with family (if they were close by... )

Phooey, I had another one in mind, but it went away...

Happy Thanksgiving!!

If you don't like that there's a million other things to eat. Mashed potatoes with gravy, candied carrots, apple pie, yams, fresh bread, stuffing, chocolate, apple cider, everything! Americans make some kind of gross green bean salad bake that involves canned onions. I don't understand it.

... November 23 (this year) or the 4th Thursday in November (which is easier to remember because it won't always fall on Squinky's birthday ).

And my favorite Thanksgiving foods are mashed potatoes () and scalloped corn ().

I'm looking forward to some gravy. I don't have that often enough.

Hopefully my dad will cut slices of raw salmon for bread. It's so tasty.

Do you mean this kind? It's like a pickled, raw salmon that is really common up here in the Nordic countries. So yummy!

Are you originally from Finland Spider?

Yep, it's gravlax. The stores here don't sell good gravlax; it's not as juicy or soft. And yeah, I'm from Finland.

My dad loves to fish salmon and he also makes his own gravlax. It's a must have on the Christmas smorgasbord as well as the Midsummer smorgasbord.
