Default The interesting thread

This thread is for dropping any historical, philosophical, sociological and scientififc points/facts of interest. I'll start off with something simple:

The concept of finding THE truth in christianity was originally created by Plato, a Greek philosopher, which is why christianity is reffered to as "Plato for the masses"

How did Plato come up with finding the truth in Christianity when he died long before Christianity started?

Can you elaborate on that, Relek? Seems interesting but I'm afraid I don't get it.

Her'es the wiki on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoplatonism

And if you search wiki for christianity you will find that christianity did adopt neoplatonism.

Also, I worded my first post wrong, I didn't mean finding the truth IN christianity, I meant the christian belief in one truth.

It's true. In very brief, Plato had the idea that physical reality is merely a shadow of a pure, abstract ideal. The Neoplatonists applied this concept to Christianity, defining that ideal as God.

That's the reason that Christian monasteries were often built in remote locations. Itwas to prevent the world from distracting the monks from focusing on God.

The Aristotelian view was the reverse, that truth was found by rational study of nature. The rediscovery of this in the late Middle Ages turned out to be quite revolutionary.

Aristotle was a misogynist.
