Shodan™ - The girl who wanted to be God
Fu*k it, that's ace. I also happen to have replayed the game, um, some weeks or so ago.

L…l…look at you, hacker: a p-pa-pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you r-run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?

Weird, I've never seen the intro of the original version (well, now I have): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMiSS...elated&search= Here's the same in German (quite good, don't you think?`): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSmVp...elated&search= Still, even though they did a hell of a job there with the voice overs, I have to say that the real Shodan sounds more sexy, just.. WRONG, FAKE, human and INHUMAN at once and thus even more creepy. Her voice doesn't seem to get as madly distorted though (the middle of her speech in the German one sounds as if two Shodans were speaking at once in disharmonic unison.. brr), it stays pretty clear in fact. I think it's actually Eric Brosius' wife, the totally crazy sound wizard of former Looking Glass.

Someday I really would like to play System Shock 1 or see someone else play it through.
I have tried it a couple of times when I was younger, but I didn't know what to do. I have SS2, but I've never played it, because such is the story of my life, lots of owned games, but not so much played games.

I'm sure you can find them online (whether legally or illegally, your choice probably) easily.

It was recently rumoured that the team behind the Godfather game are working on SS3.
Bet it sucks. Rather play Bioshock.

Well, Doug Church is currently at EA too. Working on some Spielberg games, though. What a waste of talent.

Apparently it can be made to work with a fair amount of hackery. I'm still trying, though (because I never played it properly despite buying it when it first came out)...

Huh? I had no problems whatsoever (running SP2). I heard about something like that though. Go take a look at the Through The Looking Glass boards, there's a FAQ section somewhere.
Which reminds me: does SS2 multiplayer work over internet, or is for LAN only?

It's just an IP connect, so it should work over the internet. I want to do a co-operative game someday.

I can play mine on XP just fine... who knows what I've done to my computer though.
I haven't tried the multiplayer. How's it work? |

Imagine single player, but with an extra character that has a different colour uniform running around the game world. That's quite literally it. Except I believe that it runs in either the normal or hard difficulty mode, and with respawning (like in the single player, come to think of it).
Or do you mean actually using the multiplayer? I tried it over a LAN once, but it was too slow (one of the PCs was old). You just input an IP address, connect and you're away. You both play through the character generation bit separately, and then you end up with each other when you first wake up on the Von Braun. |

Is this an FPS or an RPG or something else? It sounds interesting with the creepy character*.
*I know I am being lazy by not looking it up myself. |

It's an FPS/RPG hybrid with lashings of horror . Think Deus Ex but with a few more interface niggles. And more horror.
