Default I need to find me some "dead tree" comics!

I'll explain the situation. I am big fan of a webcomic that has finally made it to the "dead tree" comic world (it's not exactly the same comic). The problem is I can't just order it from her site...

But she suggested this site that sells US comics worldwide, but...

It's not the shipping is expensive, but it is just a bit too much for only ONE! See where I'm going?

I need to find me some US comics to subscribe to!

*Edna Mode voice*
NO CAPES!

No Maverl or DC hero comics, OK? I can get those here, and for the same reason no manga either!

I guess I am looking for the more "indie" ones? They must be monthly though!

Oh, I would appreciate some link of reviews or info or anything that will tell me about the comics you'll plug me!

If you like RPGing then Knights of the DInner Table is a worthwhile read. It's about half cartoons about a very real-world role-playing group and half game material, reviews and similar articles. Well worth checking out.

The home page of the publisher is here.

And some strips are online (for a taster of the style) here.

If you like the "indie" feel, you'll probably adore Local by Brian Wood. No superheroes there. For the most experimental title out there, I highly recommend Kabuki by David Mack- I think it's still ongoing, though it's best to start from the beginning. On the other hand, it could theoretically be seen as about a superhero, albeit one absolutely nothing like DC/Marvel's.

Other than that, I can't think of much - you say you're not looking for Marvel or anything involving superheroes, so the Mary Jane series, while being one of the most universally-appealing comics I've ever come across, doesn't fit the bill. And of course I'd love to recommend Fables by Bill Willingham, but that's DC. And I'm dying for the last issue of the limited-series Polly and the Pirates by Ted Naifeh, but you said it had to be a monthly. Hm. Sorry, I've got nothing else for you.

It's a matter of personal taste. I can't help thinking you're going to need to be a bit more specific up front if you want help on this.

Are there any other US comics you can easily get in Spain? You're talking to people around the world here and we've got no idea what regularly ships to Spain and what doesn''t. Kenzerco's an independent that I find hard to get in the UK. What others do you get already?

What do you like and dislike? I posted something I personally like and you pretty much shot it down. It's hard to recommend to someone without knowing what they're into. It's a bit much to ask people to search out links for reviews and info if you're just going to turn around and say "I'm not into that sort of stuff"

Have you actually looked around this US comics website at all? Seen stuff that interested you and want to know more? If you asked about specific titles then you might find fans able to give you the lowdown. For that matter, do they cover everything? Not much use if someone recommends something that site doesn't sell.

Well, I meant to avoid DC and Marvel comic due to the crossovers and spin offs and such... If it

Kabuki is still in print? I remember reading the comic eaons ago!

Spoiler:
She died at the end of the comic! How on Earth did they make a sequel?

I saw it in the Comic Previews catalogue, come to think of it...

I'll check the others though...

Oops, I knew I was forgetting something!

Let's see...

I've been reading manga for about 20 years, and I got tired from them because they started to look the same, so those are out.

I don't want any DC or Marvel comic that has crossover and all that rot, because I'll end up spending 200$ a month instead of 20$, also I lost intesrest when they stopped being "silly" and got way too serious... (They also have a million back issues)

Which brings me to drama, I don't hate drama, unless it's too dramatic and the hero is miserable 24/7 and people drop like flies...

I like them either cheesy and funny, or with a good plot with good characters, if you can't get me to care about the characters, I won't care about the comic....

I do like comics like Tales From the Crypt and that sort too...

I've seen that there is an Elvira comic, but I have no idea if it's any good (or any bad)....

So far, the ones I should be subscribing to are:

- The Devil's Panties(the comic I originally wanted to get in first place, also it's NOT Satanic Porn!)
-Sonic The Hedgehog (It has Sonic in it. What else can I ask for?)
-Girl Genius (unfortunately it's not monthly)
-Strangers in Paradise (ditto)
-Scott Pilgrim (double ditto)

I read a few months of Comics Previews Catalogues, but I only keep seeing comics I'd like to have, but are either one shots or short series or not monthly...

I'm hoping this will help a little in indicating what I like in comics?

But Scott Pilgrim is a manga.
Well, sort of.

And you know, if you start with Strangers in Paradise now, you've got A LOT of catching up to do.

But anyway, iComics and Ninth Art are your friends.

Oh, and The Fourth Rail could come in handy, too.

I actually read the Free Comic Book Day comic of Scott Pilgrim, and well, yeah, it does have a bit of a manga-like look, but it doesn't have that manga feel...

I don't know how to explain it, but manga and anime is more than a style, they also have a feel, or plot lines to follow, and it sure didn't feel like any one I've read, and I've read way too many...

Yeah, I know I have lots of catching up to do with Strangers in Paradise, but at least I don't have as much catching up to do as with Spiderman or Superman... (Also I heard it's ending next year)

Thanks for the sites, I think they'll be very helpfull...
