Your Favourite Cuisine
Well,
Since there hasn't been a decent poll in here for a little while *looks at deadworm* (The last one being my ostentatious End of the World poll), I decided to go for something down-to-earth, yet extremely engaging. We all have to eat. But what do we love to eat. Maybe we don't get to eat such food everyday but nonetheless it is our favourite type. This will be a great exercise in embracing our cultural diversities. Without any further ado... For me, I like good old-fashioned home made food. That is, Indian Food. I'm a vegetarian, so I do not enjoy the chicken delicacies that the cuisine has to offer. My favourite food is a type of Indian Junk food. It is called Samosa, and it is served with a tangy sauce called Saunt. Here is an example.

You can't go wrong with Italian food (and I'm not talking about the watered down Olive Garden crap) and Mexican (again, real Mexican, not tex-mex or the Taco Bell variants).

Your poll is too generic . Nowhere near representative of the world's cuisines, sorry. Anyway, mine are:
Thai (tom ka chicken coconut soups, beef salads, curry meat stews) Ethiopian (honey wine, lamb dishes, breads) Filipino (dinoogan [blood meat stew], aroscaldo, espasol, desserts) Indian (tandhoori chicken, vegetable stews, nan bread, samosas) Brazilian (meat, meat, meat - marinated, roasted, skewered over fire) Japanese (sushi & sashimi, miso soup, fresh udon) Korean (various pickled appetizers, boolgogi, chop che, meat dishes) Swedish (meatballs, lingonberries, pastries) American (classic cheeseburgers, steaks, homemade potato salads, roast turkey) Mexican (various sopas, chicken enchiladas, chorizo burritos) Spanish (sangrias, paella, various tapas dishes) Caribbean (jerked or blackened chicken, fried plantains, rice) Southern/cajun (jambalaya) You can imagine how hungry I am now, and I've just eaten breakfast too .

I dined on Tibetan food once (in Chicago's only Tibetan restaurant), but it was so bland, characteristic of the Buddhist culture, I guess. They had yak meat, I passed, more out distinterest than repulsion.
There's also this interesting meat dish in Ethiopian cuisine, kinda like steak tartar - raw meat ground up and spiced and you eat it with their bread. Not bad, but not unique enough to try again.

Ahh Tibetan food. Yes, I've had some. There was a dish called Momo. Sort of white spongy stuff with boiled vegetables. I didn't have the courage to find out what the white stuff was. But yak meat sounds a little ...err... gross.

But for pizza, my absolute firm favourite is Chicago style deep dish, namely from Gino's East - one slice will fill you up. After that, it's classic New York thin crust style! You know, where the slice is so damn big you literally have to fold it in half to take a bite. Mmmmm!!!!!

Being India, I would say Indian.
Although, the all-powerful Chinese is also considered a delicacy by me. All other food is good too. After all, it's food. |

Finnish. Nothing else. Even the pizza and pasta have become so Finnish in Finland that they are no longer Italian. I'm afraid of most foreign food, and whenever I've tried it, it's been as bad as I have originally thought.
Although you might be afraid of mämmi. Especially of the way it looks.

"Mämmi - A malt flavoured oven-baked pudding" What are you yapping about? It looks really tasty to me. Now this one would make you feel sick: Dinuguan (Pork Blood Stew), from my native Philippines. My mom makes a really delicious version!

Well I will tell you one thing, the best food is as far away from Sweden as it possibly gets (and now I'm talking about countries like Finland, Germany as well). We are TERRIBLE at cooking. We always have and always will be. My favourite food is pizza and pasta. So I guess my favourite food are Italian or something originally. I am not very good with food in general wheter its about cooking it or telling where it's from (being swede and all, he he ).

My favourite food is simply dutch food. It's winterfood, usually powerful. Now I don't like all the sauerkraut and icky stuff, but like Sam would say: ,,good ol' taters." There's nothing like a big healthy plate of potatoes, plain vegetables and a piece of meat or fish with that. Today I ate spinach, eggs and potatoes. Stuff like that; it's real simple but just terrific for me.
Don't know if that's exactly continental...

Henke: If great cooking means something that tastes really horrible, I'm happy with my current situation.
