Default Letter arrives 20 years later

Man, now that is snail mail!

Quote:
HOW long does it take a letter from Ipoh to reach Petaling Jaya?

Well, Huang Jun Hui's letter took almost 20 years to reach his childhood friend Chin Kon Shian.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Chin's 62-year-old mother was shocked when she opened the letter dated Aug 12, 1986, with his permission.

The cover of the letter was torn when it reached Chin's family.

According to the daily, Huang, who was then in Form Two, wrote the letter to invite Chin and his family to his parents' birthday dinner at their house in Ipoh.

Huang, now 35, moved to Ipoh with his parents when he was eight years old.

Chin told Sin Chew that they had continued to write to each other but their correspondence never touched on the birthday party.
It takes about 2-3 hours of driving to reach Ipoh from PJ.

I think it probably got lost, and then they found it again and sent it. Its the only logical explanation.

Stuff like this happens all the time, I think I remember reading a 80 year old man getting a letter from the then-love of his life after 50 years or something.

I think it Involved time traveling
Losing a letter and finding it 20 year later? Logical? Pfffffft!
It could only have been time traveling

I don't know if this is the same in other countries, but in the UK the Royal Mail is legally obliged to deliver a piece of post if it finds it, no matter how much later that might be. Hence these things actually get delivered.

A lot of the letters I sent to my friends in the UK get kicked back to Russia. Why is that? I addressed those letters clearly, but they get returned, anyway.

Incorrect postage (though that should lead to the recipient being charged or given the option to return to sender)? Problems at Russian customs?

No. It said recipient was not home. Which was like huh? Just leave it in the mailbox, for goodness' sake! It was not even a big package, just a birthday card. But nooooo, they had to send it back to me in Moscow. Sheesh!

Weird, that shouldn't happen unless the Royal Mail were physically unable to deliver the mail for several days (ie. the mailbox is full or non-existant, and nobody will answer the door)...

I think. I'd need to check up on Royal Mail policies...

It annoys me when my letters are 5 days late. But 20 years is a bit much. But then these things can happen.
