Amazon cares about you
From an interesting post on The Consumerist:
Just what every grieving widow needs to read! Kinda reminds me of the unusual things that sometimes show up in Google ads. It also makes me smile whenever I check my Gmail account's spam folder and I'm presented with links to tasty recipes for Spam. Anyone here ever had an funny or bizarre recommendation from Amazon or Google? |

Amazon, GoogleAds, Pandora, and Tivo think I'm gay.

Those online dating ads think I live in the US "Dating for your area!" "Meet attractive women in California!"

Amazon must have some sort of spyware or cookies because I use Play.com mainly and when I visited Amazon.co.uk, it knew ALL the things I wanted, even though I never browsed for them there!

Sometimes reading about something purely analytical, yet complicated and intellectual might help take your mind off emotional distress. However, in this case it's more likely that the connection was established in the database because of the author's name coming up in searches when people misspelled "grief" in their searches.
None of this explains the other oddities such as why I have been receiving spam in Russian (or perhaps another language that uses Cyrillic characters) nearly every single day since 1995. I have no idea what it is about, why I keep getting it, and why no one else I've talked to seems to. Either that, or it is part of my overall Spam Profile. Perhaps somewhere out there is a Russian and English speaking man who is in desperate need of financial assistance, investment counseling, and is deeply insecure regarding both the size and functionality of his masculinity that has been accidentally getting my mail this whole time. |

Recently and for no apparent reason I've been receiving spam from Starbucks with great offers for "Coffee Drinkers".
These offers turned out to be printable coupons. Thinking about this and considering the amount of money I already spent on my caffeine addiction. I decided that I would very much like to take them up on their offer... However I am living in the Netherlands, a country in which there isn't a single Starbucks to be found (at least to my knowledge). As much as I like coffee, there are limits as to how far I'm willing to go to get some. Ah well, since I'll probably be up, working my way through the ink black night again I might as well make some now..... *and he's off*
