The difference lies in bandwidth and the timespan to visibility, as has been mentioned. A chat room has you on a permanent connection and just updates you with new information as they come in. A forum needs to be reloaded before you can see the newest stuff, which will also re-transfer the whole lot of other messages.

So, in short, you are doing your internet connection and your reload button a favour by picking chat to, uhm, chat.

I want to do this over Trillian. Does that still mean I have to d/l iRC?

No, Trillian does IRC as well, at least, it did the last time I tried it.

Yeah, you could come to the adventuregamers chat room and also make another chat room declaring your love to the Adventuregamers chatroom!

You can be on an infinite number of chatrooms and networks with most dedicated IRC clients (dunno about the jack of all trades ones like Trillian though). I myself use 3 different networks and 8 channels in one copy of mIRC simultaneously.

In Trillian there's a something in the iRC section that says 'Join a channel'. What do I type in?

the channel you want is #adventuregamers

Or you can type in the consol /join #adventuregamers
