I even probably wouldn't want to change my last name if I got married (not that there's a random cold object's chance in heck of that ever happening...)

Mostly though... well, it's just a complete pain the ass going through all the paperwork. I don't know about in the UK, but here in the US you'd have to change your Social Security number, the info on any credit cards or loans you may have, any student info you may have, IRS info, driver's license/ID info... and that's the basic stuff. Add in bills and magazine info and post office info and all your friends and family, and... ugh. Way, way too much hassle.

Ackkkk -- I'm going through this particular hell right now. I'm changing my last name to my husband's, and I'm sorta procrastinating on the process.

So wait, to change your name in the uk you just have to put an ad in the paper declaring this then start calling yourself by your new name?

You're going about this all wrong. It's your first name that should should be Westgarth. You know, to replace Robert. Westgarth Peter Lacey. Robert is so ordinary. Besides, it's not like adding a middle name is actually going to affect your family at all- they'll still call you Tiberius. I mean Robert. But changing your first name- now that's something. It's a dignified name!

Certainly. Because if the answer is yes, I have an excuse to indulge in brutality.
