No, mass doesn't have an effect. Girth and spin is what has an effect.

Yay. Though both it and the sequel are flawed.

(I'm going to get slaughtered for saying that.)

The sequel bored me. I never finished it.

Almost quit playing shooter or RPG. Just have time for an occasional puzzler or 2. Darn Facebook addiction you know.

The end's quite good. But the middle drags, and focusing on the weakest gameplay element from the original (even in improved form) was a bit odd.

I made it to the point where you begin the suicide mission, but then I realized the only way to keep everyone from dying was by upgrading your ship. I just didn't feel like doing the massive resource farming that that would have required.

Heh. Actually, it's worse than that, because
Spoiler:
by the time you know that you have to do that, it's too late to get the best outcome (sure, you can upgrade the ship, but if you delay starting the suicide mission after a certain point, you can't save the crew).

My issue with the ship upgrades is that
Spoiler:
they serve no gameplay function outside of determining those cutscenes at the beginning of the suicide mission, so I had precisely no incentive to upgrade them over the course of the game.

Oh, for all its flaws, it's a good game. Just not the 8th best game ever (as Metacritic would have you believe).

Actually, though I am a big fan of the series, I am also the first to admit, that both games are not perfect. Especially Mass Effect 2 feels lacking in comparison to the first game. I blame it on the fact that the whole universe feels about the size of a small neighbourhood in some town. The first game felt much bigger, and you had so much to explore, so much to do on the side.

Also, taking away the inventory and trading with weapons sucks!
