5 People for dinner
Imagine you're giving a dinner party and want to have interesting conversation. Pick 5 people (plus yourself) who are living today, that you would invite for this evening of conversation (not all the celebrities in Scott's thread may be willing to sleep with us, ya know!)
My five are: Oprah Winfrey Johnny Depp Meryl Streep J. Scott McCoy Beiddie Rafól If you notice a couple of familiar names there, it's because I consider them equally as interesting to talk to as I would the celebrities. Lynsie

I'd have more than five people at my dinner party - I'm not sure I could limit myself that easily, and I'm sure I could name more than 5 AG people alone that would make for interesting conversation.
But then, I'm incapable of holding an interesting conversation that isn't related to video games or choral music . How about: Patrick Stewart (I can imagine talking about his childhood would be fascinating) Pierce Brosnan (apparently a charmer in real life) Margaret Thatcher (the most interesting recent British PM) Michael Palin (I actually know someone related to him) Warren Spector (design genius) Mind you an evening with Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, Brian Moriarty, Steve Purcell and Dave Grossman would be, quite possibly, the best ever. |

Hmmm... I am worried about you Robert! If Margaret Thatcher is the only woman you consider interesting enough to invite for dinner, then you need to meet more women, and be aware of who's on TV, media, etc.

After all, I could have invited Martha Stewart, Hilary Clinton, Miss Rice, Sigourney Weaver and Nicole Kidman (to pick five potentially interesting people). They just didn't leap to mind in the couple of seconds I was thinking about it (not that Thatcher did either, really, but I felt I should have a politician on there somewhere). |

EDIT: If Martha Stewart came to dinner, you could be sure the napkins would be folded in the shapes of swans and the centerpiece would be to die for. |

Nah - she wouldn't like it that I used salted butter instead of unsalted! She would be interesting to talk to though. Except for Hillary, I like all the other choices of women he gave in the second post!
Wasn't picking on him as much as noting that with the two groups, there was only one woman in the first post. It doesn't have to be 3 and 3, (unless Martha Stewart is one of them, LOL). Lynsie

Eep!
As delighted as I am to be invited to your dinner party, I must warn you that I'm considerably less interesting in person because I don't have access to an edit function for real-time conversation. Now the hard part...picking my five guests. Of course there's Fairygdmther and Intrepid Homoludens, but for the other three I can't narrow it down to just three. I'd rather have real people than celebrities at this soiree, and there are far too many people here that regularly make me laugh out loud to pick only three of them. Nope, I can't do it. However, to play fair I'll list three celebrities: Bette Midler Cher Ben Stiller

Ahem... seems like I've had a few rather long-winded (on both our parts) conversations with you by phone, and never did we want for subject matter! The phone calls with you and Beiddie are the main reason you two were included! You both are great conversationalists! And you would bring quite different viewpoints to the table. Your choices of celebs seem like fun ones!

I was thinking of all those weirdos that register and never post. Don't want them.

1. Bill Clinton
2. Paul Krugman 3. Terry Prachett (mostly because I'm playing Discworld Noir now) 4. Salman Rushdie (or Umberto Eco) 5. Martin Scorsese (just to ask him What is the obsession with Leo, eh?) Ooh… five isn’t enough. I’d also love to have Amy and David Sedaris over – never a dull moment to be had, I’m sure.

Heh. Since I don't pay enough attention to the media to be familiar with most "icons" actual personalities, I'll cheat a bit and go at least partly with people I've met already...
1. Josh Mandel - I actually have had dinner with Mistah Mandel before, and it was quite fun. I wouldn't mind doing it again. 2. Peter David - He's quite funny and full of lots of SF-related thoughts and theories. You can tell he writes for all the series he does because he's a die-hard fan of them. 3. Bill Mumy - Very funny and intelligent fellow, and a delightful storyteller. 4. JK Rowling - Not someone I've met, but all of her interviews make her seem like she's a very clever and down-to-earth woman with a whimiscal sense of humor. 5. I had some trouble thinking of a fifth person, but decided on Trep. Because, who wouldn't want to meet Trep in person? Although I can think of numerous other AG folk I'd love to chat with in person... you're quite the crowd! Peace & Luv, Liz

1. William Shatner--he's a party animal, and I'm a hopeless trekkie nurd!
2. Ann Coulter--insensitive, political and argumentative conversation is my cultural heritage, and I'd like to engage with her in it, among other things. 3. Slobodan Milosevic--If it could be a frank conversation, I'd wanna know exactly how and why he managed to **** up my country. 4. Boris Tadic--The current Serbian president, and my hero. 5. Jessica Simson--present to be silent, and look pretty.
