Spoiler: I'm glad they didn't show more of them, the sound effects were enough to creep me out!! Spoiler: Sidenote: I was watching a preview before the movie (I had never seen it) and I was thinking, wow that would make a great game. Then the title came up - Doom. DOH!!! Melanie, I'm so glad you decided to take a chance on Serenity and see it in the theater. Yay for those first nine minutes online! I hope this movie does well in the box office. There needs to be SEQUEL!!

A light hearted heist movie with *spoiler* not being *spoiler*? I'd definitely see that, but prequels are kinda lame. I'd rather see what new dynamics *spoiler's spoiler* brings to the crew. Although Whedon did say that *spoiler* and *spoiler* will be in the next movie, but I'm not sure how...

Ok, so the Serenity movie seems to have some positive reviews - I'm surprised but I will reserve judgement until I have seen it
I'm just wondering how it compares to the original series - is it the same actors and story?

Same actors, but in a larger than life type of story.

The spoilers = certain unfortunate things that happen to certain beloved characters. It's all very traumatic, but makes for one hell of a movie!

I saw the movie, and it was quite good. I think I'll give the series a try. How does the movie fit with the series? Is it a prequel?

That was the only thing I hated about the movie, but it does show how strongly I felt about all of the characters. I'll instantly snag a copy of this DVD when it goes on sale. I think a sequel/prequel/whatever film would be nice, but what I'd really like is to see the TV show air new episodes, sort of like how Family Guy made a comeback. Preferably episodes taking place before Serenity. But I'd probably like it whenever it would be set.

As far as making either a prequel show or movie--I say, what's done's been done. It was real, we dealt with it, let's see where it takes us. Living in the past is the wrong way to go, imho.

Hopefully I didn't give away too much with my spoilers. I had to read Doug's and your posts a few times to get the gist.

As for the gist of what Doug & I were saying, I guess you'd have to be a hard-core fan who's been discussing these topics for the past week on different forums, to instantly get it. So, you did good.

Unfortunatly by the look of the box office numbers I think it's been relatively disappointing.
Taking $10m on it's opening weekend it never even beat Flightplan which opened the week before. I had hoped good word of mouth would prop up the takings, but current estimates are not that optomistic. (Fridays takings Down 59% on the previous weekend). I've seen the film twice now. Once in Florida and once when It came out in the UK this weekend. It's fantastic, but for some strange reason it doesn't seem to be doing well in the states despite the glowing reviews. Once again the idiotic masses ignore probably the best film out at the moment. Overseas take and DVD sales will probably be more than enough to ensure that the film turns a profit, but wether then allows for a sequel is a bit iffy at the moment.

I'm interested in hearing the overseas figures myself. Anyone knows a website that's calculated what they are so far? Did this movie have a simultaneous worldwide release?
