Default Played the first Ben Jordan today...and noticed something...

After having Guy Pearce recommendating these games for good writing(though he pointed out it gets good from game 3 and onwards) I started and finished the first game today. It was a fun little game, though there was very little investigating involved. 3/4th of the game consists of getting the amulet to have someone escort you to the forest.

Anyways....I created this topic because I think I noticed something.
I watched the intro and there was an X-files reference and I was like, huh, the creatof obviously likes this series. And then somewhere in the middle of the game it hit me...

Fox Mulder
Ben Jordan

3 letter first name. 6 letter last name. Coincidence? I think not.
I mean...why else would you choose the name of Ben for your protagonist?!
(Sorry for the people here that are called Ben. >_>)

Guy Pearce recommended Ben Jordan...? That would be pretty cool if true, but I'm skeptical... where'd you source that from?

You mean gray pierce

I'm not convinced about the X-Files connection and think it is probably just a coincidence. You can make all sorts of links between things if you look hard enough for a connection. I hope to meet Mr Gonzalez in the near future so I'll ask him if I remember.

Do persist with the games. They are well worth the investment of time.

Pure coincidence.

I've actually only ever seen maybe one or two episodes of The X-Files.

Glad you enjoyed the first game!

Haha! Ah well... close enough. I have to say I was pretty impressed that Guy Pierce was playing adventure games. Well, temporarily impressed I suppose...

Yeah Gray Pierce, my semi-fellow countrymen.

I dunno guys, but I really don't think it's a coincidence. I mean.....wouldn't Ben normally be the last choice to name a protagonist?
It's quite a dull name =( (sorry)

The secret of the name hides in its initials BJ...

At least that's what someone told me he heard from Grundislav.

I think you can trust Grundislav's word.
BJ, yeah...how many variations have we heard of this joke. I guess Backdoor Man was inevitable then.

there's many games characters with 'boring' names, many of them commercial releases too. not everyone can be an Indiana, Sherlock, Guybrush or Rincewind

I'm a world famous Hollywood actor!!!!

Seriously though, glad you enjoyed BJ1 Origami. I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of em as well(well, at least from BJ3 onwards) Also, why am I a semi fellow countryman? I mean, I was born and raised in Holland

As for names, I guess it depends on what you do with it. I mean George Stobbart isn't a very interesting name untill you add "That's two Bs and two Ts"

@Grundislav: Perhaps when you're finished with BJ8(that is going to happen right?) you should try The X Files because it's a fantastic series.

Also for everyone who thinks Gray Pierce is my real name
http://www.jamesrollins.com/
And no, I'm not the author. Just a fan. In fact I'm not even famous.
Anyways, not the best username to choose

But don't be afraid! One day I'll come back as wiseguy173. Now try make a Hollywoodstar out of that

Yeah I dunno why.....maybe I put the fact that I am of turkish heritage into the equation. But I have a dutch passport and all =D.

And are those books any good? Are they in the same fashion as Indiana Jones? Looking for ancient artifacts, globetrotting?

And about George Stobbart....even though it's a dull name, it still has some flare...I dunno.
But Ben Jordan sounds as a real uninspired name. Unless, as I theorized, it's an homage to Fox Mulder.

I wouldn't be a fan of them if I thought they were crap
i have to say though that I'm mostly interested in the Sigma force series as you've probably allready guessed by my udername and avatar. I think they are A perfect blend between espionage and adventure with lots of really interesting actual scientific facts. And yes there's lots of globetrotting in the novels and lots of ancient artifacts. Though it's not your classical type of adventure like Indiana Jones. More a Dan Brown type. Allthough way, way better(not much of a Dan Brown fan)

If it's classic adventure you're looking for I highly recommend the novels by Andy McDermott. Better than Indiana Jones if you ask me.

And just in case you've been living under a rock for the past 40 years. The grandmaster of adventure: Clive Cussler

Now let's get back on topic. Wich was?

I think I have discovered an even more suspicious pattern. Consider some names notable in AGS circles:

Ben Jordan - BJ
Chris Jones - CJ
Davy Jones - DJ

Which leads to an obvious observation: We are missing an AJ!

Owh sorry. I didn't know you were the man to have created this game. So I guess we got the definitive answer and I still stubbornly thought otherwise. >_>

Thanks for your reply then.

Edit: And a little bit of feedback. I have played the remake and I found the close up of Ben Jordan of low quality compared to all the other characters in the game. Which is a pity since he is the most recurring character of them all.

His face looks a bit bloated and the shade of lightblue as the background doesn't do it well.
I hope maybe this could be changed in future Ben Jordan game enhancements.

Normally I wouldn't even have criticized this since it's all almost a one man project and that is always admirable and understandibly you can't promise the highest quality in every department. But it was just because I noticed how well done some of the characters was. Like, I just started with Ben Jordan 2 and the woman in the beginning is Sierra quality. =P
