There's something something I must confess...
I'm a mac user so I don't have a big collection of adventure games, BUT, I might get a PC sometime soon. I'm planning on picking up The Longest Journey first, because judging from the screenshots and all the press, it sounds extremely entertaining. Any other games to reccommend?

I feel your pain. I was a Mac user for 20 years. Finally bought a PC to keep up with AGs.

I'm interested in, like I said, The Longest Journey, Runaway, The Dark Eye, Grim Fandago and Bad Mojo so far. Any other recommendations? |

I know, but since I may be getting a PC, I might as well get the games legally.

ScummVM is legal ... but you still have to buy the games of course.

Still, I'm getting a PC anyway and not all the games I want are SCUMM.

Gabriel Knight games are a must. Also, my two favorite adventures of all time, Blade Runner and Little Big Adventure 2 (some action in this one, but it's worth it even if you're a purist).

I'm complicated

Since you're getting a PC, which is rather powerful in relations to the small demand of most adventure games, I would recommend you to try the newer games (i.e. games released for the past two or three years) first, like Syberia 2, Still Life and Return to Mysterious Island first, instead of the older games as suggested by others. It's not that those ain't good (heck! Some of the games the guys mentioned are the BEST!), it's that the older games weren't design for new system, and you may bound to meet some compatibility issues. Although all the older games could honestly be run on PC, with minor tweaking and resolution of some technical issues (DOS-environment emulators or whatnot), I would've enjoy my first feel of something new trouble-free! So, I suggest that you try the newer games first.
TLJ as far as I know should run trouble-free on most systems after win98. Sam&Max as well as DoTT CD version should work fine also, if you use ScummVM (yet to resolve the resolution problem though...). |

By the way, I noticed The Longest Journey got slapped with an M-rating, something a bit unusual for an Adventure Game. Judging from what I've seen, the only thing bad is the language, which is still weird because I clearly remember plently of T-rated games getting away with that. Is there anything other than language I might want to keep an eye out for.

Some lesbian characters, too, so maybe that's it.

I'm guessing those characters are subtle?
Not that it matters though, I mean at 10 bucks the game looks to be a steal. |

April's landlady is a lesbian, you just learn that from talking to her, there's no... er, carpet munching or anything
Here, read this, then buy the game.
