Default adventure games as a means to regress

i have the feeling that a large percentage of people who play adventure games are seeking something in the past that they have left unfulfilled. The game becomes a physical representation of this unfulfillment.

Interesting philosophy! I had this sense about Syberia 1 & 2, as if Kate were vicariously living Hans' lifelong dream. It certainly wasn't her dream to pursue mammoths, but the concept of pursuing a dream, even someone else's dream, is very enticing, and unfortunately not something many get to do in real life.

All of us experience moments in our lives when we know that we are letting opportunities pass us by, but we are unwilling or unable to follow them at the time. I believe, if I understand you, that you are saying that adv games give us that second chance to experience those missed opportunities.

My family left me on an island with a bunch of burned books.

the reasoning is suspiciously satisfying though...

I play the games to ENRICH my reality, not to escape it.

I think he would say:

" The fact that you are at all concerned about adventure games reveals your underlying sexual insecurity."

Which might explain some discussions on these boards.

...Sorry, I couldn't resist.

No, because we are aware of our undelying sexual insecurity, we have those talks. We KNOW about it. So that explains why I no longer play adventure games. It's not that the genre is modly and boring, it's because...

OK, no sex talk in Adventure...

I play adventure games because I have a secret desire to murder my father and marry my mother.
