the article about the best all-time adventure games
totally agree with the number spot, which was taken by Day of the Tentacle. In my opinion, it was the only game that lasted the longest impression on me. Up until now, I could clearly remember the game and the experience. It's a beautiful game, the graphics back then topped it all.
Do you agree? |

I don't think we'll ever come to a conclusion on this topic. Everyone is always gonna have thier personal favorite. My pick for number one would be MI1. Even thought it wasn't LAs first adventure game, i think it helped to spawn a string of great AGs.

I think that Sanitarium, Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis and Monkey Island 2 is the best games ever. So I think they should be at the top (the fact that Sanitarium isn't even on the list is a disgrace). I do however agree that Day of the tentacle is one of the games that deserves being on the top.

Agreed Wonton. The best adventure game of all time is a relative and a personal thing. Some may say Day of the Tentacle, some may say Monkey Island, some may even say Tony Tough and the Night of the Roasted Moths! For me, Monkey Island would be my favorite, and despite Evan's comments on the game's ending, I would put MI 2 alongside it for a joint first. In my opinion, I think Evan is really stretching the envelope saying it has the worst ending to an adventure game of all time. Yes, it was open ended, and no it didn't explain very much, but I think that was all part of the game's mystique.
Like it or not, it's the ending shrouded in the most speculation of any adventure game before, or after it. It was created with a third game in mind, I don't think there's any question of that, unfortunately, we'll never see for ourselves the definitive conclusion. But to say the ending is worse than that of a Beverley Hillbillies or an Ace Ventura is a little drastic.

We've been through this before, and with MI2s position, i think there was a small group that wanted to lynch Evan

I disagree, IMO, The Longest Journey is the best adventure game par none, no other game had me so interested and I just thought it was very well done. DOTT was good, VERY good even... But no way was it as good as TLJ... Then again I think I have very different taste, as it seems Curse of Monkey Island wasn't even on the list, when I think it was the best of the series.
That's just me o_O. |

I take it the article has been in-progress for some time? There seemed to be quite a lot of anachronisms there - not mentioning sequels that have been announced (BASS & S&M), mentioning your upcoming college finals (that was what, two years ago?), invalid website addresses, things like that...

MI3 is one of the best adventures ever (one of my favourite games ever) and yes I've got MI1 and 2. Atleast you didn't put MI4 on the list

I think it's got to be MI2 for me. I already mentioned in a different thread that I think DOTT is pretty much perfectly produced, a clever and entertaining work that's a model for commercial exhibitionism, but it simply doesn't reach for the same artistic heights that many other "classic adventures" do. DOTT just doesn't touch me as deeply as others, so in spite of its flawless production, I don't revere it as much.

The best games of all the times are Kyrandia, Simon and Goblins.
